Re: New DA 62 Owners
I flat spotted two tires on my DA42 and that prompted me to replace the brakes.

Re: New DA 62 Owners
Well, after the first flat in the DA42 (which was pricey), I did a landing clinic with a DA42 CFII at Angel City in Long Beach. His assessment was that I was doing everything right, I was just a little fast on final. Not fast when the wheels actually touched, but fast before I came over the fence. I've been working on that.
But we did a whole bunch of landings and he didn't think I was doing anything stupid, which I would have happily taken criticism and some additional training for. It is possible the one in Fullerton was an uneven runway bounce and not releasing the brakes in time so when the tire came back down it didn't get to roll. I'm unsure.
The new brakes seem to have solved the issue, though.

Re: New DA 62 Owners
New brakes and new tubeless tires. Flats in general are often related to the tubes as much or more so than to flat spotting from heavy braking.Colin wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:37 am I flat spotted two tires on my DA42 and that prompted me to replace the brakes.
My old plane came standard with Beringer wheels, brakes and tubeless tires. The brakes worked well. The stiffer, high pressure tubeless tires seemed more resistant to abuse, less sensitive to low tire pressure. The freewheeling hubs have less rolling resistance when moving the plane by hand. And the wheels just look so good, especially the blue ones that match the stripes on Colin's plane!
I appreciate the comments about small wheels and a heavier plane making it easier to lock up the wheels. Thanks for the advice.

Re: New DA 62 Owners
Poking around the Beringer website, I happened across the 2020 price list (https://www.beringer-aero.com/sites/ber ... n_2020.pdf) which specifies wheel and brake assemblies for the Diamond "DA50NG" on page 4. Does anyone know if the DA62 uses the same wheels as the DA50RG, and if so, might there be a Beringer brake/wheel option forthcoming for the DA62?

Re: New DA 62 Owners
Good find -- Diamond's DA50 video seems to show that the mains (but not the nose wheel) are the same size as the DA62. But we can't know for sure until Diamond publishes the DA50 AMM or Illustrated Parts guide.ultraturtle wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 8:31 pm Poking around the Beringer website, I happened across the 2020 price list (https://www.beringer-aero.com/sites/ber ... n_2020.pdf) which specifies wheel and brake assemblies for the Diamond "DA50NG" on page 4. With Beringer wheels and brakes available for the DA40, DA42, and DA50, you'd think they'd be an option on the DA62 soon.

I stumbled across a nice write-up about your DA62 from one of your buddies on Beechtalk today.PlaneIISea wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:44 am Just purchased a new 2020 DA-62 two weeks ago N502LA and wow what a nice aircraft it is. Re: New DA 62 Owners
It's interesting that the Beechtalk reviewer only flies the DA62 at 95% maximum continuous power -- we usually cruise at the recommended 75% for much better fuel economy and only add about 10 minutes on a 4 hour trip. This also provides better range to avoid fuel stops. With turbocharged engines, a better way to fly faster is often to go higher (TAS increases about 3 knots for every 2000 feet higher), especially since the plane will maintain a 1000 fpm climb into the low teens.Chris wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 4:00 amI stumbled across a nice write-up about your DA62 from one of your buddies on Beechtalk today.PlaneIISea wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 5:44 am Just purchased a new 2020 DA-62 two weeks ago N502LA and wow what a nice aircraft it is.
