The DA62 is also on the cover and featured in a major article in the December 2015 issue of Flying magazine that arrived in the mail yesterday. The article is quite complimentary, based on their reporter flying the aircraft in Wiener Neustadt.

The article is not yet posted on the Flying Magazine website.

A similar DA62 cover story was published in the UK Pilot Magazine back in June 2015.

Dave, any thoughts on why you think Diamond choose not to exploit the wider and larger DA62 panel to upgrade the standard G1000 avionics from the DA42 to add more current items such as larger screens, dedicated autopilot controller or the separate alphanumeric keypad entry controller? Current Cirrus models and the Cessna ttx use these newer G1000 or G2000 capabilities.

My guess, and it's only a guess, as to why the DA62 uses the same G1000 components as the DA42/DA40:

Because Diamond chose to certify the DA62 with EASA as just an evolution of the DA42 by adding it to the DA42 Type Certificate -- to save considerable time and money -- the systems components and electrical system of the DA62 are nearly identical to the DA42-VI. If Diamond had gone to the G2000, for example, they might have been forced to certify the DA62 separately.

(Or perhaps Diamond wanted to simplify their inventory by only stocking G1000 parts?)
