Re: Thinking of DA40 after SR22
Good luck with your decision. I've never flown a Cirrus but have 500+ hours all in DA 40 variants. I bought a 40 NG in 2019 and love it. I find it to be a very capable IFR machine so don't really understand soem of the comments on its IFR limitiations, apart from FIKI absence of course.
Having flown the XLS a lot initially with the prior generation G1000 I would only suggest holding out for either an NXi-refurbed XLS (if they exist) on an older 40 or buying the 40 NG used or new with the G1000 NXi. Its a stark difference in my view. Also, the ease and enjoyment of the NG fadec / Austro combo continues to impress me and builds on the original 40 XLS capabilities in almost universally positive ways

You can have a bad day flying in the DA40 and it will get you home. I’m not sure that’s true for a SR22. Mine has conventional instruments, WAAS, and the KAP140 autopilot. It is very economical and reliable. It’s super fun to fly.

How has sharing your DA40 NG worked out so far with Advantage?
Do you limit who can rent it?
Does it see a lot of use?

Hi, I'm thinking about getting IR in DA40NG at KPAO. Can you please recommend the instructor who is familiar with the DA40NG? Thanks.
Do you know any membership/partnerhip opportunities available in SoCal? Or Club where I can rent DA40NG? Thanks.

You might also check in with Bay City Flyers. They might have an instructor that could work with you in your plane out of PAO.

Last I heard, Bay City Flyers had closed their doors. Although if you can reach somebody from there they will probably know some instructors in the area.

(562) 366-4806 Is their Long Beach location. They seemed to have some phone system issues, so I don't know if they are actually closed. But the Long Beach office will probably have some Bay area CFII's in the rolodex.

Re: Thinking of DA40 after SR22
@da40fan Maybe I missed it but I didn’t see a post about yearly maintenance - my yearly annual is $1600.DA40fan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 10:18 pm I'm a 400-hour, instrument-rated pilot who has owned an SR22 NA for 3 years. That’s almost enough said compared to your numbers which are unreasonable if you ask me. In 10 years you would’ve paid for another plane!
That price does not include extras such as new brakes or power flow exhaust slipknot maintenance, or other out of band challenges. And we have no parachute to repack.
Now a similar thing that you would probably like is the fact that it’s a composite too and should have a lifetime air frame.
Regards… Hope you’ve made your decision by now.
