DA40 Jack Pads

Post by Soareyes »

Well I finally got tired of trying to lift the plane from the wing. It took forever and always had to block the tail or it would drop to the ground. I decided to make a lifting plate that I can carry in the plane as it only weighs .54 kg. It fits between the bottom two brake line clips. I used it this summer to remove the wheels. I have enclosed some pictures if anyone is interested on making one for their plane.
In case this bit of tribal knowledge has been lost, Bogert Aviation makes a nice jack pad for the DA40. It worked well on the three DA40s I've owned in the past.

Have also used the Bogert jack pad for years now with a cheap floor jack, and has worked great. Much easier that wing jacks.

The jack pad is:

I use it with a cheap rolling floor jack (I think it was this one):

It doesn't really work with a bottle jack because as you lift the strut and the weight comes off it, it straightens out and moves inward. With the rolling floor jack, you just line it up towards the middle, and as you jack it just scootches a bit inward. It's all very stable, the tail does not drop, and the other wheels don't really move, although I usually chock them (but have forgotten before with no problem). The part that sits on the jack that pushes the pad is designed for a bottle jack though, so I simply unscrewed the cup of the floor jack, screwed in a big bolt, sit a socket on top of the bolt, and it fits perfectly in the bogert part. I will take some pics when I am there next.
