Backup handheld BT radio

Post by Guest »

Hi,

I am wondering if following is possible, and if yes what are the recommended products.

One of DA40s that I fly have only one COM radio. Is there a handheld transceiever or receiver, which could be used to monitor second COM frequency, but with bluetooth pairing ability?

I own a pair of Bose A20 bluetooth headset to which I would like to hook up, via bluetooth, the mentioned handheld device. I do NOT need to transmit via the handheld, just to monitor secondary frequency. With A20s automute ability for bluetooth streams, it would prevent double incoming transmissions from installed COM and handheld COM.

Am I dreaming or could this be done? If yes, what device would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't the A20 also have a mini-plug in? My Lightspeed does and I was pretty sure the two big players were at feature parity. If so, the standard iCom radio that I used to carry for emergencies had a way to hook up via a miniplug.

Hi Colin,

You are completely correct. Seems my mind was thinking too complicated with bluetooth connection.

I will check the iCom.

Thanks for the tip.

And since you are only *listening* to the frequency you might consider something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Whistler-WS1010- ... B00IID3O72

which is just a scanner and receiver. (I couldn't figure out if there's an audio out, obviously you would want that.)

But that's $80 instead of $300 for an iCom.
