Whoops, bad typing. 900 hours on airframe!

Austro have had inflight shut downs, Failure of induction hoses and loss of oil pressure are the ones I am aware of.
The induction hoses was some time ago and may have been dealt with by now.
Loss of oil pressure is quite recent and was the result of a failed sump baffle. If this was a one off or others are at risk I don't know. Lets hope Austro issues an AD if there is a risk.
The loss of oil pressure was preceded by a few short duration low oil pressure events. So if you have anything like that get someone to look at it before it does any serious damage to the engine.

Can you provide a little more info? I am working on my wife to considering jumping in and buying another airplane before the kids graduate college. :D

Tim,
I don't know what else you would like to know. These planes were returned to Diamond for them to sell. They will upgrade per the buyers wishes. I don't know why they are not advertising all the planes they have, but I would be happy to give you more info on my plane, including logs if you want. My understanding is that the buyer indicates what engines/upgrades they want and diamond will sell them as certified pre-owned with a warranty fro Diamond. Here is the URL:

I bet that they are not advertising them because it would depress the market. Better to put two up on Controller at a time. When I called they could not quite match the deal I found on a 2.0 DA42, but they were within $100k and my guess is there is some negotiating you can do. I am bad at that, so I took the deal I had instead.

They don't put 2.0s engines on them yet, as far as I could understand it. But they CAN do an NG if you want. (If you do the NG you have the option of the ESP portion of the GFC700, which is a pretty cool upgrade.)

You are probably correct. They wanted 18 months to get the plane sold. In the meantime I have to keep making payments on a plane that I can't use :(

Faced with the decision of selling my DA42 with (original 1.7) engines getting close to TBR, or upgrading with new engines, I decided to keep the aircraft and refurbish with new engines. I went for a pair of 2.0 Contis, plus prop O/H.
The option was then to either contract with DAI for a turn key, or to purchase engines from Technify and have an MRO do the swap.
The latter solution turned out much cheaper and without any problems.

My friend had an engine failure in a fairly new DA-40NG on Saturday. N168LA

[Audio from N168LA starts at around the 19:00 mark]

Sounds like they handled it well by staying calm and returning to the airport with a descent through IMC.
