Re: Austro AE300 Engine Discussion

Post by Boatguy »

I've had one unscheduled engine event. It was a few weeks ago and a failure of the turbo wastegate controller at about 380 service hours. There are multiple reports of this in the FAA's SDR reports. Mine was covered by warranty, but it would otherwise have cost about $300 for the part (available at a Mercedes parts counter for $25), and $180 for 1.5hrs of labor, so about $500.

Austro reports that they are aware of the problem, a weak diaphragm in the wastegate controller, and are "looking to improve this part of the actuator".
