FADEC - data readout

Post by Wilfred »

I am a silent reader for a couple of weeks in this forum and today I
have a question regarding readout of the FADEC:

I am interested in buying a 2008 DA42 (Thielert) with low flying hours (ca. 100h).
The current owner and I have agreed to bring the aircraft to Prebuy
in the beginning of next year.

The owner told me that the a/c had a decompression/overheating problem with one
engine, but the engine has been replaced.

The a/c was taken to inspection 2 weeks ago. To my surprise (and suspicion) the FADEC
was sent to Technify. I wonder why this is necessary? I guess the FADEC will be returned
in "clean configuration" without any data that could be used for Prebuy.

Do you have any comments or hints?

If the plane is under European registration then the FADECs must be removed and sent to Technify every 5 years for inspection. I suspect that the data will not be destroyed because I just replaced a FADEC (I had my left unit go bad) and it was reading something over 1000 hours on it, even though my plane has only 750 hours.

Good luck with your "new" bird.
