Synthetic Vision iPad

Post by Antoine »

Just installed V4.2 of airNav Pro. This has become a seriously impressive app!!! They even offer synthetic vision and i am tempted!
Before spending $ 1000 on a mini AHRS and some coverage fees I was wondering if somebody had already tried this?

Hi Jean

Air Nav Pro has a mode called EFIS. it is the second icon from the top left. it will display a crosshair and G1000 like speed and altitude bars. the background is an empty 3D blue surface.

if you go to the map shop and buy the 3D content for Belgium, you should see the synthetic vision instead of the blue background.

Hope this helped...

Thanks Antoine,
I have Airnav Pro on my iPad but I ignored these new features. Looks quite nice.
Did you test 3D Efis ?
Concerning Levil's mini AHRS, I read an article in AOPA Magazine. They tested it with WingX Pro7 on the 2011 speepstake Husky. The test was positive.

I have a Pilatus PC12 pilot friend here on our airport (in the swiss alps). He has the IPAD APP airnav pro in use with the synthetic vision. According to him, it is very accurate (with the internals sensor - no AHRS). I am sure it is accurate and it seems very reliable, but think about – it is not certified – personally I am in a clinch, I know that it is been used as a navigation source to fly in in marginal WX situations – we have so far no IFR procedure to fly into the valley of our airport – On the other hand, as the airport manager, I have to consider the legal aspect.
Once again, the regulations do not match and follow the technically possibilities.
thomas

p/s for the internal sensor / gps you need an IPAD with 3G

Wow Antoine - that sounds exciting - but I cannot seem to see where those features are - or where the map store is - does the map store include the USA? - can you be more specific on how to please?

From What's New in Version 4.2.1
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/air-navi ... 46057?mt=8

- Added a calibration function for the 3D view (press 2 seconds on the green calibrate button)

Erik it is hidden under a strangely modest name. either EFIS or 3Dview.

the icon to switch into that view is the second from the left on top.
I will check if US maps are available and report.

Edit: found 7 USA maps. 3D files are listed at the bottom of the list in the map store. Map store is last icon to the right.

Found samples - pretty nice graphics:

It seems to be using google earth images. It is prettier than anything else - even Garmin's SVT. WOW. Are the accurate?

If it has USA maps - I am buying asap! Thanks Antoine.
