I LOVE my iPad. It is so cool with foreflight.

To tell you the truth, it is better not mounting it in my opinion. Initially I wanted to mount it too. I like to pick it up and look at it closely to see the little details on the approach plates, or the charts. I like to hand it to my co-pilot so they can do the same.

I was going to get a knee board for it, but I found no need. The standard case:

is perfect as a kneedboard. It has just enough friction that it never falls of my knee.

Hello

Has anyone used the mount as described in Sportys

http://sportys.com/PilotShop/product/15728

Recently an app has been introduced into Australia where all the documents can be loaded onto an ipad, so thinking on getting one of these.

Cheers

Robin

PS only another 3 weeks before my DA 40 XLS is out of its first annual :D . It went in on March 24th... :tap: .

I have the RAM mount that you linked. Works great, never comes loose even in the bumps. Only complaint is finding a good location for the ipad that doesn't block view out the window or the panel. This is not really anything to do with the mount, but just the size of the ipad in such a small cockpit. If it isn't too bumpy, I find myself just laying it loosely in my lap most of the time.

Same here. I couldn't find a good place to mount it in my steam gauge aircraft where it didn't block view of something important. When I'm not using it, I slide it between the center console and the copilot's rudder cable tube. That is a handy storage location - out of the way, yet easily accessible.

Still researching

Just found this

looks interesting...especially being able to write down clearances etc. Note the comment from the Diamond flyer

Cheers

Same for me too.
I bought stuff to make one myself but I eventually prefer the Apple case. Here is a link to a site explaining how to build an iPad kneeboard:
http://dreamschooner.wordpress.com/2010 ... kneeboard/
When I don't use it, I stuff it between my left leg and cockpit side.
BTW, since last 4.1 IOS update I can't lock the screen in portrait or landscape mode anymore, which is annoying when you look at maps and move your iPad.
Does any one know how to fix that ?

... double click, scroll to the left. This is where the icon for locking the orientation is now.

I think the latest iOS update gave you the option of using then button next to the volume control as an orientation lock again.

Tim,
I haven't installed IOS 4.3 yet. I will check that because I find the physical button easier to use.
