IFR Palomar - BUSY Visual Approach (Full ATC)
Another TEC Route, this time to McClellan-Palomar airport in Carlsbad CA. As we near North County it becomes apparent that the nice weekend weather has brought out a bunch of us pleasure flyers, and our clearance for the visual approach runway 24 only elevates the need to see and avoid. How many times should we request that Approach hand us off to Tower, before we make the switch ourselves? Thanks for flying with us. Wayne, GeezerGeek Pilot

Great video. That's such a beautiful area in which to fly when there's no marine layer.
We *planned* to land our DA62 there at Carlsbad KCRQ last Thanksgiving when we flew all the way from the east coast to visit our son who has a home less than 5 miles from KCRQ -- it would have been very convenient to have our plane parked there for a week.
But after we called multiple FBOs at KCRQ to ask about parking and other fees for a light twin -- as well as ridiculously high JetA fuel prices at KCRQ -- we discovered we could save many hundreds of dollars by instead flying into San Diego's Montgomery Field (KMYF, Gibbs FBO) and asking our son to drive an extra 30 minutes to come pick us up. KCRQ FBOs all seem to cater to the jet set rather than piston bugsmashers like us.
It was nice to watch your video to see what landing at KCRQ would have looked like...

Dave, thanks for watching! Indeed KCRQ has become the "in" place for small, private jets. Also busy with lots of training, and a seemingly steady stream of Cirri. And decent food at The Landings.
All the best!

Yeah! What were you doing? Two planes on final and you didn't want to join them? So much for approach providing separation.
