Flying to Kern Valley for a Burger (IFR/VFR, Full ATC)
A double date, in double planes… to a rustic destination for a great burger! Have you been double dating during COVID? With a marine layer on departure, today I expect a simple cleared route and therefore a few clicks to file in ForeFlight worked nicely. Had I expected a lengthy route clearance I might well have requested a clearance for an “IFR Climb to VFR-on-Top”. What is your preference and when?
Thanks for your insight and enjoy the flight!

Wayne, I love the fact you overlaid the Foreflight iPad recording on the video. Quick question, which video editing software did you use for this, and what’s your iPad mounting solution?
Here’s my picture of Kern Valley as I overflew on my way to California City. Airport is in the bottom right hand corner.

Hans, thanks for watching and the kind words... and for your cool Kern Valley photo.
For recording the iPad, I use the standard iOS Screen Recording feature:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207935
For editing, I just use the iMovie product from Apple on a Mac, and insert the iPad recording on top of the GoPro video via the Picture-in-Picture effect.
I mount my iPad Mini off the side of the canopy using a RAM X-mount:

Happy to answer any and all questions.
Very best regards,
Wayne

Wayne, thank you. Did you attach the RAM mount via suction cup, or did you figure out how to way to attach it to the panel?

Hans, actually I've tried each of those mounting options. But when I attached to the panel (via RAM ball mount to the upper left of the panel) there was a bit too much aircraft vibration that made its way to the iPad. When attached via suction mount to the canopy, the suction mount does an excellent job in isolating out that vibration, so that's been my method for several years.
