Boston Area Picnic Ideas?

Post by AndrewM »

Hi,

Over the past month I have taken the family for a few "flights to nowhere". This weekend I was hoping to land and have a picnic at an airport where you could walk from the plane to a beach or nice area even though its still a bit on the chilly side. Obviously, I do not want to have to get a rental or crew car (ie: social distancing...).

I was thinking of Provincetown (KPVC). Closed. Fishers Island (0B8). Closed. Katama (1B2) might be an option.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

I'm a fan of Block Island (KBID). You can walk to the beach, but it's about 30 minutes. Maybe a bit much for the family. There's also Montauk (KMTP) with a beach at the end of the taxiway. Looks like both are open at the moment. Both do have landing fees; I'm not sure what they run these days.

Block is $5 fee if you stay at the airport for the diner, or $10 if you go to town. Montauk was $20 when I last went a year and a half ago. Highly recommend Block.

Katana is closest to beach and the grass is usually good condition if it hasn’t been too rainy recently.

Haven’t been to Marshfield KGHG but it looks like it’d be about a mile from the coast.

Good luck!

I have been to Block Island a number of times and really enjoy it. The walk to the beach is a bit far though!

We ended up going to Montauk. Had a great day. Not a person in sight, except the nice lady from the "FBO" that took the $25 landing fee (we all had our masks on during the transaction!).
