Can anyone confirm one way or another that the aircraft Radio Station License is still required in Canada? Someone who has flown across the border multiple times told me that he has never been asked for it.

I have a Restricted Radiotelephone operators license from 2013. I believe that never expires. I think I obtained the Radio Station license for my former aircraft at the same time. It's not obvious to me how to apply for a new Radio Station License for my new airplane without applying for a new Restricted Radiotelephone operators license as well. And the fee for that appears to be $170. So I don't want to do it if the requirement is effectively obsolete.

This says the radio station license is not required unless the aircraft is being operated outside of Canada. Since I am based in the US, my aircraft is routinely operated outside of Canada. But the US does not require a radio station license. So neither the US nor Canada require the license. It seems counter-intuitive then that the license would be required for flight between the two countries.
