Premier Rallye Aérien du Cercle de Wallonie - Aoste

Post by Jean »

Hello everyone,
Last 13,14 and 15th of May, we participated to the first air rally organized by "Le Cercle de Wallonie", a managers' club in Belgium.
The aim was to cross the alps from SION in Switzerland to AOSTA in Italy.
The first day we departed from Liège, my home town, to VERDUN, then to BESANCON and last to CHAMBERY ( I had a thought for Antoine because we were close to his home base).
At each leg, her was a challenge of pin-pointing photographed items on a map and answering questions relevant to these points and precision landings tests. We were at the third place after the first rally day.
Unfortunately (but forecasted) the flight over the Alps was cancelled due to weather. We eventhough made a small flight from Chambéry to Albertville and then in the Moutier valley and back to Chambery before the storms scheduled (and there) at noon.
In the afternoon, we were condamed to a boat ride on le lac du Bourget :thumbsd:
On the last day, weather wasn't so nice. The first leg was canceled (no AVGAS available) so we stretched it to REIMS PRUNAY (Champagne) and had to load more fuel, so we didn't care too much about the challebge and made it over the clouds and mountains first, and around storms cells at arrival in PRUNAY. So we cared more about our fuel (with a 30 KT head wind) than about the rally challenge. So I don't believe we will confirm our third place (awards night next monday).
We were ten aircrafts participating, 5 Cessna's, 2 DA40's, and 2 Robinson R44.

This is something I have to read quite often recently. I don't know if they are cutting down on something there...

Nice shots, btw!
