On Google maps it shows that there is still a lot of empty space.

Hi Kai,
Sorry to see you go as a Diamond owner.
I can see the attractiveness of another plane, flying from your own turf. Will need to be UL i suppose and AFAIK you'd need to apply for a permit which may be tedious in España.. But maybe a free spirit like you has something more 'informal' in mind? ;)

Aart, plan a) is the formal one and this plan is in the process of getting approved with the "Conselleria de Medio Ambiente" in Alicante. However, this might take a while and no matter what the outcome of plan a) is: plan b) is the informal and typically Spanish approach.

Thanks a lot, Lance! Will have to go to San Diego one day and meet up with you.

I have a few pms in my inbox and read them. But I am busy leaving Thailand and flying back to Germany. Will reply next week. Sorry for the delay!

Kai, you may remember N166G. I sold it several years ago to a private owner in Paris and it is parked in the same hangar as my DA42. It looks to be lovingly maintained.

Let's be sure to get together when you are back in Europe.

Hey Lance somehow I oversaw this post and your kind offer. Please do not take offence. Thank you very much and I would love to fly again in the US. (I finished my IFR in NY/NJ but never actually felw on the west coast).
I am very very lucky to be able to fly my friend's DA40 at the moment while waiting and waiting for the Extra to happen.

Needless to say you are very welcome to come explore the Swiss Alps in a DA40 or - someday- in a boring, pressurized, tubocharged, de-iced, people mover!
