Re: Engine quits with rapid power movement
I've always thought the electric fuel pump a bit quirky since the engine does not really like it to be on. Otherwise the rest of the engine performance quirks are Continental Engine, not Diamond. Same with the avionics - I'd have a hard time diming out Diamond for issues in the panel. Ultimately I f...

Re: Engine quits with rapid power movement
Never experienced engine out while advancing the throttle and/or on final. Definitely ground the aircraft until you can troubleshoot. The M-6 manual is fairly robust for troubleshooting - see chapter 8. But there are many variables that impact fuel, spark and air - thus the performance of the engine...

Copy - makes sense. Sounds like a reasonably inexpensive fix in the grand scheme of Aviation Maintenance...

Re: Spark plug rotation conundrum
Hummmmm, I wonder if whomever came up with a plug rotation mandate was simply trying to see if they could make everyone go crazy following some meaningless ritual of symmetry. Caveat - I'm just blogging, i.e. I don't have years and years of experience or even an A&P certification but here is my ...

Re: New nosewheel fairing has towbar opening smaller than original
Many FBOs that have a tow bar have multiple adaptors to fit different sized receivers in the nose wheel fairing. Where the towbar attaches, my DA-20 takes different sizes depending on if I have the nose wheel fairing on - or if I leave it off. So I have engineered a few simple wooden adaptors that I...

Re: Oil Pressure Sender
YCCA, I'm trying to understand. Are you getting low oil pressure indication but the oil pressure is fine - or are you getting low oil pressure? My only oil pressure experience was a broken spring in the oil pump - i.e. actual low oil pressure. I was actually not around for this event. Attached pictu...

Re: Old codger "wisdom"
You would think I had better sense than debate Diamond history with 5-star members. There is actually an HK36 at the Diamond Service Center in Lakeland. It is in the back waiting for some significant repair/restoration. It was in a hangar that collapsed during Hurricane Irma. She looks very similar ...

Re: Old codger "wisdom"
Just a few weeks ago I was flying an EAA Young Eagle rally. One planned turn way point was a lake - every turn point was a left turn which meant my YE who was in the right seat was always on the high side of the bank. Thus I would use ADS-B to ensure the other planes in the rally were not near the l...

Re: Old codger "wisdom"
OK, I'll bite. 1. People can't really multitask - they just jump from one thing to another in quick succession. Training yourself to scan is important but autopilots allows you to scan more than just the bloody six pack. 2. GPS only fails if it is the only form of navigation you rely on. 3. ADS-B in...
