So it doesn't matter what frequency you are tuned to at all? Also, does "don't get reception" mean that you can't hear anybody else transmitting on frequency (when tuned to a known-busy frequency) while the Rx it lit up? Once the static clears up, the radio behaves normally after that? Ca...

FWIW I find all sorts of stuff (including COMMs) really suck in the hangar. Whenever I want to test something regarding any external RF I pull the plane out in front of the hangar. (I have the luxury of being at the end of the row and don’t block anyone needing to taxi. I could sit there all day.) ...

Back to the OPs question. If he entered ODDEL and then Load Airway, he should have been presented with T336 since ODDEL is an intersection on T336. So what happened?

Definitely possible.

Here's the RNAV 31R at KCIC. GRIDD is the transition and KLEMM the IAF. This is how the G1000 wanted to fly it.

Since you're clearly an instrument rated pilot flying with a CFII, this may be somewhat redundant. I think the G1000 responds differently to an arbitrary waypoint, than to a waypoint which is part of a procedure. I haven't had it disconnect with no warning. However, I do know that if you you hit the disconnect button on the stick, and then hit it again, it will mute the disconnect warning.
