Re: Contemplating long-term suitability of a DA40 for family of 4

I would hold off as long as you practically can. Besides introducing the DA-50, you may see the DA-42 come down in price. I ended up having to go back to Cirrus for the SR22 is in between the DA-40 and DA-42 in terms of capabilities, and the DA-40 was not enough, and the DA-42 was too high capital w...

Re: Leaseback experiences?

Locally they keep 12% down to a minimum rate (I do not recall what the number is). Owner bears all costs except credit card fees for paying the rental. You also get access to the mechanics, insurance... all at discounted rates. The insurance through them was about 1/3 of what a direct quote I receiv...

Re: Leaseback experiences?

I had a Cirrus SR20 on leaseback for a couple of years. It was with a school that specialized in Cirrus, they averaged about 150 hours a year. It was worth it, since they also "managed" the plane, oversaw the MX, and used a shop they had negotiated discounted rates for all the MX (they had...

Fuel leak. Look for the telltale blue stains.

Re: Any interest in mutual aircraft sharing?

2. License recognition Admittedly I have not looked into this as it would not be my preferred way to go, but a temporary recognition of a license might work just as fine (or even a conversion, should time and money allow for it). Last I checked with Canada it takes two visits, separated by a day at...

Re: Flying Magazine Review of DA40 NG

I lost my O2 Sensor in my last move a couple of years ago. I really should get a new one, I had a slick one that basically had a watch band with a battery and display and then ran a wire to the finger. So you could wear it constantly during flight, or if really curious you could download the data as...

Re: Any interest in mutual aircraft sharing?

From what I have read previously, the problem will be pilot licenses. To fly an EASA registered plane, you need an EASA license. Same for N-Registered plane, you need a license from the FAA....
There are limited exceptions, but they mostly deal with the purchase of a plane.

Re: DA42 vs Fatal Accidents

I find this is a fine and sometimes rather difficult line to be drawn. I like to think that some aircraft seem to invite certain piloting failures. For example take a look at the the now infamous Speyer accident which was caused by a double engine failure shortly after take-off. IIRC the PIC had us...

Re: Flying Magazine Review of DA40 NG

Has anyone tried a slightly slower acceleration and not drag the right brake? Bring power to 1500 RPM, enough to get the plane moving, at about 10 KIAS, go to 2000 RPM, when at 20 KIAS go full throttle....
Or some variation of this?
