Re: What to insure For?

The current value of the aircraft is certainly one way to look at it. But I would offer you need to insure for what you intend to do with the insurance money. Ultimately I don't think there is a single right solution. Will you really go find the same thing? - or would you get something different? A ...

Re: High Airframe Time

Now don't be dissin' my justification for keeping what I got. It keeps the cost under that prenuptial I did not initially know about - "thou shalt not spend more $$ on your plane than me..." Just remember the DA20 forum is my turf - we might be a small subset of the total Diamond bloggers ...

Re: High Airframe Time

I'm in the 4K hour range. My DA-20 lives in a hangar and quite frankly her airframe remains in great shape. Keep her waxed and she will not suffer any sun damage. Having said that, there are always maintenance items to deal with - and it is not free. If you put off maintenance, issues will build up ...

Re: DA-20 Autopilot

I've been through two annuals at a Diamond Service Center - alas, that means I don't get to spend as much time doing the owner assist thing anymore. My original plan of mapping out my entire STEC-30 autopilot has fallen to the side. It was a STC install by the factory before delivery to the original...

Re: ADSB options

I did the Garmin GDL-84 with a Flight Stream 110. The GDL-84 sits under the copilot seat, the Flight Stream is under the instrument cover. Best part of that install solution is the aural call outs of traffic. I do see traffic on my iPad so I can start looking in the right direction but on many occas...

Re: Throttle position at idle?

AMM states "Do a throttle control Freedom of Movement Check and a throttle control Range of Movement Check." Refer to Chapter 76-00. If necessary, adjust the throttle control. Personally, I would focus on the RPM at idle. Whether the throttle bottoms out at the throttle quadrant or the thr...

Re: The grass isn't always greener...

So my DA-20 can fly an IFR plan in VMC. Would I intentionally fly it into IFR - never. Can it get you down in a pinch - absolutely. The grass remains green for me. Aviation maintenance is the one thing that will make/break a greener pasture. In this light, the DA-20 is simply less expensive to opera...

Re: Stall Warning System Required for Flight?

There is no "legal requirement" for a stall horn. That little reed broke in my stall horn - stall horn was non-mission capable until the replacement came in. Was only one or two flights before my replacement reed was delivered - but POH did not specifically state the aircraft was not airwo...

Re: MT Prop: How much rain is too much?

I dropped of the planet for a bit - will try and get back into the DA20 Forum community. My DA-20 has an MT prop. Rehab of the prop was part of my last annual effort. The rain would take all the paint off - mostly at the tips. Last annual my IA said "it needs real love" - so it went off to...

DA-20 Autopilot

I'm going to populate this topic over the next month or so. Flight schools did not need them but I have read several times where other DA-20 owners have lamented over their desire to have an autopilot - most recently on the "how to value a DA-20" blog. 20 years ago, DAI made a brief attemp...
