Re: New Wing Spar AD
Is your composite shop Eldon, or someone else? He is very busy and a great guy. Not many composite friendly shops around here, still old school, aluminum based. I used Professional Air (now Leading Edge) in Bend for diamond-specific stuff (like composite work) and to order parts that have to come f...

Re: G1000 AHRS failures
Turns out in our case that the GMU-44 would fail when the nav lights were on. We upgraded to LED nav lights, and haven't had an issue since. Lower current in the wires going past the magnetometer reduced the interference. Curious. I could see a potential problem with the strobe lights (which are su...

Re: New Wing Spar AD
Beating up on the 12 year MSI thread so I may as well go here too. Just to confirm, this spar AD is not actually required until 2023? Or is that only if the 12 year MSI is done? That may or may not be a requirement for US planes? Confusing. I will say it is entertaining reading though this thread w...

Re: 12 Year Structural Inspection
Very confusing and conflicting information in here. What is the story, is this 12 year inspection mandatory or not? Can someone summarize the additional requirements of this primarily visual inspection, looks like the rudder has to come off for a look, what else? Where can I direct our non Diamond ...

Re: The next stuff
Were I to replace my AI and HSI with my current thinking (2610 + G5), I'd shed something like 8.5 lbs. of empty weight and marginally improve my forward CG situation (the CG isn't that big a deal - just sayin' definitely not a negative). The current Aviation Consumer has an interesting article regar...

Re: LED Landing / Taxi lights for the DA40
Re, I thought that hex bolt head has to be installed to avoid using a screwdriver not easy to insert in this area. Arnaud. That is possible. I don't have the Work Instruction. As an aside, I installed the HID lamps in my aircraft (before LEDs were available) and have been very satisfied with them. ...

Pegasus PG2C-28V. Had a spare instrument hole next to the altimeter. Works just fine right there.

Re: The next stuff
Response received from Garmin today: Hello , Thank You for contacting Garmin International. The G5 was given a certification basis by the FAA for 14 CFR Part 23 amendment 49 and earlier aircraft. Unfortunately, the DA 40 aircraft does not fit into that requirement. It has an newer certification. How...

Re: Jeppen vs. Garmin nav data
Something else to consider: Don't sign up for either a Jepp ChartView or Garmin FliteCharts database subscription. I don't have either one in my DA62. Why? I'm already relying on Foreflight on my iPad for approach plates, so I can save $300-400/year by not subscribing to approach charts again on th...
