Re: Cost of replacement wingtip
Thank you very much Dave (and Colin) for the lead on Dave. It turns out I know Glenn Lawler, he did the pre-buy inspection and some additional work on my DA40. The wingtip is on its way to Southtec. ACE aviation mistakenly shipped it by UPS Ground (!) and so it will only get to Glenn next Wednesday....

Re: Cost of replacement wingtip
Good to know, Don. That probably explains the necessity for in-field paint. Mine is a 2008. I'll check that I'm getting the right finish.

Re: Cost of replacement wingtip
Thank you, Rich, Colin and Antoine. The skin structure is clearly penetrated and hence not sound by that criterion. But I also felt - as in your last paragraph - that a tape covering would be adequate to fly it back. Colin - Sean Quinn is in fact the A&P working on my airplane and your endorseme...

Cost of replacement wingtip
Last weekend I scraped and damaged my right wingtip at Renton (KRNT). After landing I found that most of the transient parking spots were occupied by new Boeing 737 airplanes in final assembly and that the only four remaining spots were already occupied. I then taxied to the Rainier Aviation tie dow...

Re: OnePak / PilotPak
After updating the G1000, this screen greets Nir at every boot. Most things seem to work, but TAWS fails (red box) and this repetitive boot screen clearly is not normal. I don't know about the TAWS failure, but I'd see this same annoying set of notifications until I realized that the NAV data card ...

Re: Loose starter
Thanks, Steve, for the pictures. The configuration of three studs and one bolt (that fell off) is quite different than I'd envisioned. I was curious - what made you take the pictures - is this something you do routinely? This makes me convinced that I should be doing this too, and in general staying...

Loose starter
Last Sunday, my DA40 wouldn't start when when I was set to return from KHIO in Oregon to San Jose, CA. Instead, the starter just made a horrible noise. The FBO where I was parked couldn't initially get a response from any of their mechanics late on a weekend, so I looked for any other mechanics on t...

Thanks, David. The photo album idea is a good one too.

Re: Flaps light
What a coincidence that you just posted this! I thought my flap lights had all suddenly gone out on my DA40, but I have also just recently turned the dimmer lights down completely. I'll bet that's what happened. Thank you, Eric!
