Re: Cirrus Grounds SR22’s

CMI released some updated info. The recommendation has changed, engines which have completed over 200 hours have been excluded from the potential failure group. Someone did some math and stated from a statistics standpoint, that means the highest number of hours on a plane with this failure should b...

Re: Cirrus Grounds SR22’s

The rough estimate posted in COPA which was apparently provided by CMI is expected the max number of planes affected will be 1000; with expectations that only in the high 600s will have to be inspected, and then possibly mitigated.

Re: Cirrus Grounds SR22’s

Per COPA, CMI notified Cirrus, and Cirrus notified all new owners and COPA of an installation issue of a pin holding the counter weights. If the pin comes off, the counter weights could come loose and fly off through the case, causing the engine to seize. The issue affects engines made after June 1s...

Re: AE300 Cost

Attached is the letter from Austro about TBR and cost. I never understood why they remained with iron block when they changed policy to TBR. They could switch to aluminium and save some weight for increased payload. Time and Money. Theilert (now CMI), engines were aluminum, but the company spent ye...

Re: Piston power

Michael, The founder of Piston Power is Ron. (He is/was the CEO also when I talked to them a few years ago). Ron built and sold a large company for the turbine world doing exactly what Piston Power is attempting for pistons (I forget the name of the turbine company; you can ask Ron, he will gladly t...

Re: NG vs XLT in light of Austro MSB

Keep in mind over many decades Lycoming and Continental and various shops have produced, maintained and overhauled engines of these types several hundreds of thousands of times. And you can flip it also. With thousands of APs and shops around the world, the rather relaxed standards of verification ...

Re: New MSB about to be issued

Attached is a screen shot from the presentation (which they may or may not make available) that they expect the MSB to be ratified by EASA in around a month and the AD 2-3 weeks later. Thanks! Sounds like a very long time without any obligatory actions... Not really. When you look at the history of...

Re: New DA62 owner but not PPL yet

I met a student pilot from Europe years ago. He found it was cheaper to come to the USA for a series of intensive/dedicated flying trips to complete his training than do it in Europe. If I recall correctly, he came over for three weeks stints for to get his PPL then IR. The MEL add-on was a one week...
