Cary,
I always like to read/hear about people who know when to call it, versus those that push to hard and end up hurting others.
Good luck with the cardio issues.

Re: G1000 WAAS upgrade
Does this mean (hypothetically) the next failure of a GIA63W will result in a permanent grounding of the airplane due to lack of spare parts? When I contacted Garmin about the issue. They were specific that they still repair units. They no longer sell parts/kits for upgrades. Garmin did imply that ...

Re: Engine Reliability
No summary that I am aware of. The SR22 Turbo (all variants) run the engine much closer to design limits. This has detrimental effects on engine life. Even the non-turbo version of the SR22 you are getting 310 HP from 540 cubic inches. This means you are pushing about 0.60 HP per ci. While in the SR...

Re: G1000 WAAS upgrade
This brings up the question of why there are so many code bases for the G1000. Garmin is probably now supporting more than 20 completely separate code bases, each with their own features and bugs. This is a very old model of software licensing and management. I have seen multiple people ask Garmin ...

John,
If you strike out here, East Coast Aero Club has a DA-40 on the rental line in Norwood. I have not flown it, but it was available as of last week. http://eastcoastaeroclub.com/

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Extra have a couple used E400s for sale and there was this low time pilot there looking at one. We became friendly and I didn't know how to convey to him "don't"... without hurting his feelings or upsetting the Extra sales guy... I then did a VFR hop to Düsseldorf which is really around t...

Re: G1000 WAAS upgrade
I just got a reply from Garmin (that was not, talk to your dealer). Here is the reply: Yes, this is 100% true. we worked with the OEM's who were offering this and informed them in 2016 at the end of 2017 there will be no more WAAS upgrades. we still manufacture the units however most of the OEM's wi...

Re: G1000 WAAS upgrade
Sandy,
It was posted on MooneySpace by a Mooney service center who does G1000 WAAS upgrades. I copy/pasted the part numbers to be sure I had it correct.
I know Garmin does change some components due to manufacturer requirements/requests but I could not find if this applies to the Diamond.

Re: Good news for Diamond?
A Cirrus will recover from a spin using its flight controls (perhaps not as easily as a DA20/DA40), but the company never had to demonstrate that during certification because it demonstrated using the parachute for spin recovery. Therefore Cirrus pilots are taught to pull the 'chute to recover from...

G1000 WAAS upgrade
The following was posted in another forum:

Has anyone looked into if this applies to the G1000 in Diamond planes? It is official, Garmin no longer will manufacturer the GIA63W; a required component for the WAAS upgrade of the G1000 and the GIA63 is not upgradable to WAAS
