Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement
The initial service bulletin was dated Jan. 31, 2024. My first of three emails so far from the Diamond notification service was on Feb. 1st, the next day.

Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement
Austro/Wanfeng has turned a great engine into an unreliable source of recurring ADs. I don't know if it's incompetence or cost cutting, but the last three ADs, all of which resulted in catastrophic engine failure if not addressed, are since Austro/Wanfeng took over building the engine core. How is ...

Re: Wheel pants fasteners main gear
You can buy Camloc fasteners all over the Internet. There are many nearly identical looking but slightly different sizes and materials. A number stamped on the grommet can help guide you to what to order. Each Camloc has several parts; stud, grommet, retaining ring and receptacle. A few relatively i...

rH4kaxvZT0W7qh14nRY0Hw.jpg You can see that the oil sump is pretty well exposed already thanks to the way the engine sits angled in the frame. I'm curious how they plan to lift that side of the engine. There are lifting eyelets shown in the maintenance manual but looking all over I couldn't find th...

Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement
The picture in the MSB is from the bottom of the engine looking up:
It looks like the oil sump has to be removed to access the bearing screws. Guessing the engine has to be pulled for that?

Now an Emergency AD from EASA: http://support.diamond-air.at/fileadmin/uploads/files/after_sales_support/DA42_New_Generation/Service_Informations/SI42NG-139-EASA-AD-2024-0037-E-Engine-Main-Bearing-Studs-Replacement.pdf Not yet an AD from the FAA but it probably won't be long. A single 3 hour flight ...

Re: Everglades
A good spot for seafood is Everglades Airpark (X01). I was there today! Used to fly my DA40 into Everglades City (X01) but today we landed our DA42 at Marco Island (KMKY) instead and rented a car. We wanted to explore Marco, Everglades City and the end of the road, end of civilization Chokoloskee. ...

Re: MSB-E4-042 - Crankshaft-bearing cap screws replacement
Seems to affect most/all E4 Series engines. There are a few lower serial numbers in this "screwed" list but most of the engine numbers are in the -06xxx range. This implies more recent production. Austro version vs. Mercedes sourced perhaps? My 2020 MB engines start with -05xxx and are no...
