Re: ADS-B Install Experience

Mark, I understand your position and you make good points, but I've got TAS and XM weather (better than ADS-B weather). So, ADS-B does absolutely nothing for me except deplete my bank account of $8,000 to $11,000. As a side note, I just read that the airlines state that they cannot meet the deadline...

Re: ADS-B Install Experience

I modified the letter based on Rob's recommendations and added some info about the fleet. The letters are in the mail today. Here's a copy of the revised letter. Feel free to copy, paste and modify if you think it has any value for you. "Date Dear, On May 28, 2010, the Federal Aviation Administ...

Re: ADS-B Install Experience

Rob,

Thanks for the input. I will definitely consider some modification. I'll let everyone know when and if I hear back from my "representatives".

Re: ADS-B Install Experience

Rob,

Haven't sent them yet. I was waiting to see if anyone had suggestions for improvement. They'll go out early next week.

Re: ADS-B Install Experience

Peter, Thanks for the comments. You're probably right about the politicians. At least one of my representatives is a pilot and owns his own small plane. Hopefully he will find some value in at least modifying the regulation. I forgot to mention in my original post that members should feel free to co...

Re: ADS-B Install Experience

Here's a draft of the letter I'm going to send to the President and my Senators and Representatives concerning the mandate. I will appreciation any suggestions the members may have on improving the letter (other than sitting back and doing nothing). It's probably a waste of time, but at least I'll k...

Re: G1000 updates-Garmin or Jepp?

Steve, I've used both and prefer Garmin. The U.S. (includes Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and others) is $129.00 plus tax for a one time update and $299.00 plus tax for an annual subscription. They have a North American version that covers Canada plus. Their website is a little difficult to navigate a...

Re: ADS-B Install Experience

Steve, Thanks again for the response. Forty hours for labor sure seems like a lot. I also see the price for hardware for the experimental planes and it's a lot less expensive and they can do the install themselves (if they've got the knowledge). We've only got two avionic shops in Albuquerque and on...

Re: ADS-B Install Experience

Steven, Thanks very much for the info. Is your plane equipped with the G1000? Did you give any consideration to the 335R unit which costs less? At least your install was less than the last one that reported an $11,000 cost. I think it's very important for all of us to share information as it applies...

Re: Adding WAAS?

Sounds like it's about time to start writing letters to Representatives and the Administration to do something about this outrageous (in terms of expense) mandate. Sounds like the AOPA (that brought us the watered down and weak 3rd class medical revision) isn't going to do anything.
