Re: Alternator Failure?

Was the PlanePower alternator a drop in replacement? There are instructions concerning Lycoming engines which suggest that a different alternator belt is required. I assume that yours did not require a new belt otherwise I think you would have mentioned it. The next question is if a new belt was no...

Re: Garmin 796

In all seriousness, do you think that SVT is worthwhile for approaches if you do not have WAAS. As you probably know, WAAS is not available on the DA42 equipped with KAP140 autopilot. Cary My personal opinion - SVT is a huge increase in situational awareness and confidence during an approach in IMC...

Thanks, Cary. ;) I used to have some money, but now I have an airplane... :)

Re: Alternator Failure?

How much do the different alternator options cost? I assume that they are relatively easy to change out as long as the belt is still good. We need to add a section in the wiki where we post the time to failure for various components by brand. The AL24-70 cost me $542 from AircraftSpruce , and it ca...

Phil, how old was yours when it failed, and how many hours?

Re: Alternator Failure?

Flew home today with a new Plane-Power alternator installed. The old alternator is now in a box in my garage - one of the brushes was completely worn away, which is why it failed. It was exactly 5 years old with 1400 hours on it. I may have it rebuilt as a spare in case I (or some other DAN member) ...

Re: Fuel quantity indication possibly off after G1000 servic

I'll check into that tomorrow, but I wouldn't be suprised if there's no records like that. Calibration procedure would be great, if that's not too much to ask - I saw the one in the Kodiak SB, and I would imagine the one in DA40 to be similar, but solid instructions would be nice, and I haven't fou...

Re: Fuel quantity indication possibly off after G1000 servic

Hi Rick, The guys were running a bunch of software updates, chasing the issue of G1000 not talking over the intercom, per Garmin's suggestions (ended up being a loose pin in the back). Then running the software update to include the GFC700 they forgot about. I take it somewhere in the process the f...

Re: Fuel quantity indication possibly off after G1000 servic

Max, There is a fuel guage calibration procedure for the G1000 that matches the readings it gets from the fuel probes with the actual amount of fuel in the tanks. Once they are calibrated, those values are saved in the G1000 forever - or until someone upgrades something and doesn't save them. Part o...

Re: Alternator Failure?

Thanks, Steve. It looks like it IS the alternator, according to the shop. All wires were solidly connected, so he pulled the alternator and says it's not producing anything. In an effort to move things along, I just ordered a Plane-Power AL24-70 kit, which is PMA'ed for the DA40, to be delivered tom...
