DA40 Rentals in Hawaii? (Oahu)

Does anyone know of any flight schools in Oahu that have any DA40s for rent for visiting pilots? I was hoping to do a checkout and then some local sightseeing flights in a DA40 but thus far haven't found any for rent. Any recommendations on places to rent other aircraft would also be welcome. Thanks

Re: What Oil Do You Run?

I use Aeroshell W100 with Camgaurd based on recommendations from Savvy, an A&P, and another DA40 pilot. Note that I'm based in a warm climate and would rarely, if ever, have the need for a below-freezing start. Rob, I wonder what it would take to get Blackstone or one of the other oil labs to re...

Re: Garmin Pilot Checklist

Scott, I don't use Garmin Pilot but if it uses *.ace checklists, you should be able to use the Garmin checklist editor. It's a little more user friendly than notepad. I've used this to successfully edit the checklist files used on the G1000 and it displays exactly how they will look on the G1000. ht...

Re: ADS-B Install Experience

As is already well-known, the latest DA40 G1000 software won't display ADS-B weather on the MFD. Dave, Isn't it just the non-WAAS G1000 software that won't display ADS-B weather? I get ADS-B traffic, NEXRAD, METARs, and TAFs on the MFD in my 2008 DA40 with GTX345R. (No XM installed). As of last yea...

Re: Jump Starting a DA-40

Hello all, reviving an old thread here... After discovering that I had a dead battery, I followed the procedure to start with external power. Everything went as expected and the engine started normally. After running for several minutes, I turned off the "ALT" side of the master switch to ...

Re: Drink holder -- what works?

I bought one from the Diamond display at Oshkosh last year that I think is about 20 or 24 ounces and is narrow enough at the bottom to fit in the cup holder. However, it's not insulated and the drink spout is really narrow so most of the time I find myself just keeping an insulated thermos in the po...

Harry,
Does your Bluetooth connection on your iPad consistently work or are you experiencing signal issues from the front of the cockpit in flight?

Re: B-Kool Portable A/C

This may be a little off-topic but I'm fairly sure the aux power outlet in my DA40 is 12VDC not 24VDC. I will put a meter on it next time I'm out there but I recall it being placarded "12VDC GROUND OPS ONLY". I assume there is a 24VDC-12VDC converter behind the panel or maybe built into th...

Re: G1000 SD-Cards wont release

Colin, Do you just update the NavData or are you able to update airport directory, flitecharts, etc. using the top slot? For what it's worth the Fly Garmin install does say to use the top slot card for NavData and bottom slot card for the rest but I have been able to update both the NavData and ever...

Re: Non-WAAS G1000 -- ADS-B Future

Tim, The weather is all ADS-B as I do not have XM installed. My DA40 has the WAAS G1000 with the latest software versions available. I am not sure if the weather works on non-WAAS G1000s. I believe I do recall reading that the software version available for the non-WAAS G1000 may not support the wea...
