Re: DA40 D makeover
Trip to Isle of Skye. an hour in total IMC until Prestwick ILS. Then under the cloud to Skye. To Skye.jpg On top, on the way home. Helicopter pilots aren't used to being up here! On top.jpg Flown into Prestwick many times in commercial airplanes. My Mom was born in the town on the north side of the...

+1 for Zaino, plus we use Rejex on leading edges for some extra protection, since we wet wipe the bugs off after every flight. Zaino on both planes and all of the cars.

Re: Flap mass balance corrosion
We have had several instances of corrosion like this on our DA-20-A1, which also sat outside in Florida most of it's life. My A&P son looked at your pictures and had the following comments - the corrosion is probably intragranular corrosion - which as I indicated, was the reason we had to replac...

Re: Castering nose wheel on take off roll UGH!!!!!!
Everyone has their opinions and techniques and I'll add to the discussion. I have not heard this mentioned in any of the answers, but a CFI back when I was learning to fly told me one common mistake made during takeoff roll is looking directly off the nose (too close in). He suggested picking an obj...

Re: Looking for Accessory Power port fuse
[quote="Cschobel"]I thought the power outlet in the DA40 was 24 volts? The battery is 24 volts, but the alternator puts out approximately 28 volts. In a 12 volt system, a fully charged battery is a little over 12 volts and most alternators put out 14.8 +- volts. If the charging voltage was...

Re: New Rotax Oil Filter
I don't have a current picture, but here is the link to the Diamond Service Bulletin that describes the exhaust wrap - http://www.diamondaircraft.com/library/27/10/Exhaust_system_improved.pdf I'll try to find a picture to attach but hopefully this will give your A&P enough detail. Krea Ellis N85...

Re: New Rotax Oil Filter
Yes, except the filters were updated 5/24/11, so it is unlikely that any old stock will still be around.

New Rotax Oil Filter
Rotax has released a new oil filter, P/N 825 012, that is 3.4 mm longer than the filter it replaced. If you have ever changed the oil and filter on your A1 Katana, you know how tight the clearance is to the exhaust header especially with the exhaust wrap in place. During my last oil change, I had to...

Re: New member. Rear canopy door question.
Just my two cents and I am not an A&P, but I suspect taping the rear door shut would make the airplane un-airworthy. I consider the rear door an emergency exit and not just for the rear seat passengers. It would not be easy to get from the front seats to the rear and out the rear door, but I sus...
