Re: Climb out... manifold pressure and RPM??
The 2400 is correct for "older" DA40 models, as I stated. Read the POH to the end. All the checklists you cited are amended/changed in STC SA06-52 for the MTV propeller. And all checklists (max T/O RPM, max continuous RPM, best rate of climb) mandate 2700 RPM now. If you have an older pro...

Re: Climb out... manifold pressure and RPM??
Why not just stick with the POH settings? 23 squared? Nowhere in the manual! OWT! 2400 RPM is only for older models, at least with MTV-12-B/183-59b Propeller and maybe PowerFlow climb settings as per POH are 2700/FULL throttle/fully rich to 5000 ft. 1. Now 2500 rpm will be quieter and more economic...

Re: High Density Altitude Takeoff - Settings?
It helps to have a co-pilot. ;) On our DA40 trip out west when taking off at high DA airports, I'd have my pilot wife perform the takeoff while I played "flight engineer." As soon as she put in full power to begin the takeoff roll, I'd quickly play with the mixture while still on the runwa...

Re: AOPA DA42-VI Photo Shoot
Here are the cover and Table of Contents photo from the upcoming August 2013 issue of AOPA Pilot magazine. Unfortunately I can't read the article since the magazine is not yet out in print, and AOPA's website is under construction and won't let me view or sign up for the electronic versio...

Re: Climb out... manifold pressure and RPM??
2400 RPM (because that's what the POH/AFM recommends) Full throttle Pitch to 90 knot IAS Keep leaning the mixture as you climb to maintain EGTs between 1400-1500 deg F for max power Watch CHTs to see if any cylinder exceeds 400 deg F -- if so, pitch down to 100 knot IAS and/or enrich the mixture for...

Re: Long range and GSR56
Great to see that the GSR56 works nicely. We're so spoiled with the continuous GDL69A XM satellite weather in North America that I forget how it must be to fly "blind" without datalink weather onboard. Bo: How long does it take for a weather download on the GSR56? I'm impressed that the Ir...

Re: New member greeting
It might be harder work, but I think you could still fly formation with the DA40s. The issue is formation takeoffs and landings -- part of the fun with all DA40s. Matching airspeeds and power levels is difficult with different types of aircraft, particularly when you want to simultaneously lift off...

Re: New member greeting
Chris and Brian at KJYO: In case you're unaware, flight school Atlantic Airways at Leesburg has been conducting DA40 formation flying lessons this year, so far training about a dozen pilots. Before recently selling my DA40 I had a blast participating in these (now with a DA42 I'm flying formation wi...

Re: Non-Glass Replacement Tube For DA40 Fuel Tester?
Wow, you mean there are people who actually use their glass and rubber hose fuel level gauge?? I just assumed everybody also stored it somewhere safe in the hangar/house, so they could find it when it came time to sell the plane. By topping off the tank for longer flights, and/or using the G1000's u...

Re: Flying Videos
This weekend I went formation flying with a friend who has a Beech Baron BE58 twin, with my wife taking photos from the Baron. All pictures are from a single one-hour flight at 7500 feet over the Appalachian mountains and Shenandoah Valley near Winchester, Virginia. Slide show of 86 photos in about ...
