Re: Prop governor
The "good news" from MT is that they can repair the prop for $3500. They need 4 working days then it'll be on it's way back to Minnesota. Nothing needs to be sent to Germany. I can keep the shipping crate for $450 or ship it back for more. I plan to keep it here to have on hand. I've only ...

Re: Prop governor
I agree. MT USA in DeLand is great. No, the prop was overhauled locally, but they were a MT service center. I’ll post some pictures that MT sent me.

Re: Steam DA40 to Glass
I believe both the EI and JPI monitors accept the signals from the Diamond capacitive senders. I asked Savvy for their advice on a VM1000 replacement and they favored the EDM930. It would obviously have to go on the right side of the panel where the VM1000 is now. Personally I would prefer a GI275 o...

Re: Prop governor
I heard back from MT USA today. When they opened the prop there was zero grease inside. It was completely dry. The bearings were damaged. They found that a piece of one of the bearing races had broken off. They said they saw signs of heat damage. I'm not sure how this happened. The prop is 390 hrs S...

Re: Steam DA40 to Glass
Garmin is still supporting the the 530W/430W as of today. I just got mine back from the flat rate repair on each. I had some blurred lenses, sticking buttons and a broken fan on the 430W. The cost was low compared to replacement and they work great for me. Hopefully I’ll get a few more years out of ...

Re: Prop governor
The Hartzell 2-blade composite prop is now $25,000. I’m sending my current prop to MT USA in Florida for a faster reseal repair for likely 10% of that cost before considering again the new prop option.

Re: Surprise Propeller Motion
How fast does the starter turn the prop? I think it would be slower than the engine, but still probably enough to cause harm. I can imagine a scenario where 2 pilots are doing the preflight with one out in front and the master getting turned on and someone getting hurt. For the engine to take over t...

Re: CFI, MEI, 135 etc... just want to talk this out
I agree with CFIDave that the KAP140 is inferior to the GFC700, but it’s usable. I’ve flown with both. I also agree with Charles that the pre-G1000 planes are great planes, including for IFR/IMC flight, so if you want something more economical to eliminate or lessen the complexities of leasebacks or...

Re: Landing/Taxi lights
No they aren't that much. The lamps were $333 each on my invoice. There were a couple of brackets and misc. parts and about 3 hrs of labor. The total on my invoice was $1,502 for everything. There were 2 lamp model numbers, 01-0771125-20 and 01-0771125-23. Hope this helps.

Call Midwest Avtech in Peru, IL. They are a Diamond Service Center so they can get you parts and they operate 2 2003 DA40’s with those vents so they will know what you mean. 815-223-2003
