It was a little warm, so she was happy to debrief on the cool concrete hangar floor.

Re: Vent window lock broken

I thought I had ordered a bronze latch, but when I went back to check apparently I did everything but click on Place Order. So today I clicked on Place Order and it should come in a couple of weeks. I have a similar issue with lottery tickets. Never seem to win anything if I forget to buy the ticke...

Re: Hot and flooded engine starting.

Just reviewing this old thread. I tend to fill the tanks after landing, before I taxi to the hangar, and I’m having hot engine start problems. Not too surprising since my last 14 yrs were spent starting a carbureted version of the very same engine. That one was hard to start cold, but a breeze when ...

Re: A flight to nowhere?

Very fortunate about my location. My one hour flight to nowhere radius includes Zion NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Grand Canyon NP, Lake Powell, Lake Mead and Hoover Dam.

Re: DIY - Replacing Main Tire and Tube

Additional suggestion to add to the original post... Breaking the bead on the old tire is truly insanely hard manually, and very frustrating. After learning my lesson the painful way, I invested in a $45 bead breaker from Harbor Freight (after 20% off coupon), and it worked great! Simple and fast. ...

Re: The G1000 project - "The next step"

what I’d really like is to activate SVT and maybe be able to transfer a flight plan from ForeFlight directly to the G1000, without spending the equivalent of buying another airplane. Mike, what would you be willing to pay to get WAAS, SVT, and FlightStream capabilities (assuming it's less than the ...

Re: The G1000 project - "The next step"

Some of the dollar figures I’ve seen are a little scary. I know some pilots (not that many, it seems) have money laying around, but I think many of us sacrifice other things so we can fly. Then we buy an airplane that fits the budget. Unfortunately, it seems that in a modern cockpit, upgrading may c...

Re: Mx and Flying during stay home order times

Flying around the home airport, on very short flights, is what we’ve been doing. Spring weather has been bipolar and very windy, though. I am finding that the DA40 feels every little bump to a greater extent than my old C172.

Re: DA40 Ground Speed Challenge

A few years ago I was flying from KUIN (Quincy, Illinois) to KAUH (Aurora, NE). It was actually a pretty slow flight since we had pretty much a direct 30 - 35 knot headwind the entire flight even though we were down low at only 4,500 ft. - arggg... However, we were VFR with flight following and the...
