Re: DA42 prop overhaul

Bumping this thread. Our plane is in the shop and some suspected delamination was found on one blade.

OH price was $7500 per side at American Propeller. Does that sound right? For reference: these are 3-blade scimitars on a -VI. 1300 hours on them, 6 years old.

Re: NXi and airways

To Steve's example: I wish LA had victor airways that did a better job meshing with ATC's common requests. Example: how about one (not three) airway to take transit around the busy LAX arrivals. While I'm making requests, it'd be nice if ATC didn't give bug smashers big-airplane FMS-speak clearances...

Re: Who do you use for insurance? Ours just doubled

Old Republic here. DA42-VI

700k hull, $1m liability, 100k/pax. $5951 premium. Middle aged pilots, lowest time 1600 hours. all ATPs, but I think it'd be the same for commercial/instrument.

Re: DA42-VI (jet boost)

I'd rather have 200 hp Deltahawk engines hung on the plane. Even the 180 hp engines would make a dent in the ASI. -They're lighter, maybe 100 lbs less apples to apples (some speed gain there) -Much smaller frontal area, so the cowling has much less drag (some speed here too) -you gain useful load (d...

Re: Xevision 50w ballasts

Found the switch manufacturer. It's an Otto K1 style switch. Catalog is here: https://www.otto-controls.com/-/media/products/electromechanical-switches/rockerswitches/k1---sealed-rocker/K1-sealed-illuminated-rocker-switches-catalog-pages.ashx There are 3 position rocker switches available with the s...

Xevision 50w ballasts

Wondering how many or if many of us here (62 owners as well!) have upgraded the factory installed 35w Xevision ballasts to 50w setup? Xevision has a 337 form posted on their website with the exact upgrade under the "resources" tab. Link here I called up Xevision, spoke with Dan who was sup...

Re: Part 91 condition based maintenance in a DA42NG

I have a -VI/NG. Obviously you take care of mandatory AMM and engine mx manual chapter 4 items (which aren't much). I also follow most of the engine related chapter 5 mx manual items and sprinkle in some of the airframe chapter 5 items. Big picture items: An annual every year. 100 hour: oil changes,...

Re: 35% ??

The question is really at what altitude the engine will make 35%. If it's 35% at sea level, even your experiment was optimistic. 35% of 168 hp is 59 hp. If that's sea level power, then 7500' should yield roughly 75% of sea level power, so roughly 44 hp or 26% power. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Checking gearbox oil level

Chris, I had the same question when I first got into our 42. My maintenance guy at the time explained to me that the oil fills up the gearbox quite a bit. If it makes it up to the sight glass, you have more than enough. In other words, any variance in the sight glass is a nominal amount of of oil. M...

Re: Insurance

FYI: This is on a 42VI, not a 62

Old Republic

700k hull coverage was $5450.

$1m liability/100k per seat was $512.

~700 hours in 42s, 1600 TT, ATP/ME. I'd imagine commercial/ME would be the same
