Re: alternate air in visible moisture

Since the question is posted in DA42 forum, I would assume OP flies DA42 :) DA42 POH specifies opening alternate air in icing conditions which means low temperatures (I would say slightly above 0C and lower) and visible moist. I encountered airframe icing anywhere from +2 to -25 degrees C. I don't ...

I'm pretty sure anything DAI announces is related only to new aircrafts. I yet have to see any good news for the old ones.

Re: G1000 and GIA63W WAAS Upgrade Issue (mid-2019 update)

I can’t see a scenario where used GIA 63W boxes will be plentiful. That's why I wrote in previous post that it wasn't happening. Will happy people like Colin with WAAS be inclined to upgrade again to NXi/GIA64W? For $28K I doubt that I would do it if I already had WAAS. Shiny new screens with great...

Re: G1000 and GIA63W WAAS Upgrade Issue (mid-2019 update)

That’s right, it is disappointing that the GIA64w is not included in the upgrade and presumably is not compatible with the NXi boxes on offer. In this case I doubt that many non-WAAS owners will step up at these prices. Maybe the strategy is to try to move as many NXi P1 units as they can before of...

Re: G1000 and GIA63W WAAS Upgrade Issue (mid-2019 update)

IIRC in 2008 a few of the last new Thielert DA42 TDIs produced in Austria came with WAAS and GFC 700. Which is why the legacy G1000 software that supports this configuration already exists. (This may be how Colin got his DA42 TDI upgraded.) I’m aware of this and I always point out to this fact as a...

Re: G1000 and GIA63W WAAS Upgrade Issue (mid-2019 update)

Thanks for that Emir. The good news is that this is moving far faster than any of the commentators had expected. The bad news is that Diamond Continental owners, alas, remain orphaned. But still this illustrates that there may not be that much work involved, and sets the guide price for the STC at $...
