Copied from my "members only" post: Biased, obviously, but I greatly appreciate the price of admission. I spent nearly two years obsessing over nearly every post while making the purchase decision while being locked out of general participation. Few trolls (just one or two previous Diamond...

Re: Yet another flying "car".
As stupid as supercapacitors are for automobiles (Musk) and as stupid as lithium ion batteries are for aircraft (Lillium), when one switches the two, the appropriate power source for each becomes clearly evident to even morons like me.

Re: Yet another flying "car".
Not really a flying car, but immensely more useful, as it needs neither roads nor runways. Doesn't even need petroleum fuel. And, it actually exists:

I've taken off with one of the doors unlocked with no damage as well. I had actually turned the lock with the key, but it did not engage. You have to press the door closed a bit while locking to ensure the latch catches.Colin wrote:I have taken off twice with the aux doors unlocked.

DA42-VI v Super 700 Aerostar
New thread started to curb topic drift on another. Over there I was making the point that efficiency greatly impacts the payload any given aircraft can carry over a significant distance. Beyond a certain distance, a less efficient aircraft with a large useful load ends up with the ability to carry a...

Re: Tall Canopy for DA40
Suggest you check out a newer model with reclining seats and the bubble canopy. I'm only 6' 3", but have a tall seating height. I find that reclining the seat just a hair makes a big difference.
If anyone asks, the seat is always fully upright for takeoff and landing...

Re: Ice Protection!
Isn't the -40 deg C Sat for engine anti-ice as far as "required use"??!! True, and airframe anti-ice is only required in actual icing conditions. Just pointing out what range of temperatures aircraft and engine manufacturers have come up with to be vigilant for icing. Like Dave, I've obse...
