Re: Fuel filler cap locking tab direction?
One can develop a rationale for installing the cap in either direction. That, however, doesn't mean that either approach is better. I do like Russ' approach, using the direction as reminder of a preflight check item. Also, irrespective of direction, if the O-ring seals are faulty you can get water i...

Re: They're out there among us...
How unfortunate. My co-owner and I learned about the importance of weight and balance early in our training, when our instructor crashed an overweight DA20 on a 100 degree summer day on takeoff. Our instructor didn't make it, but his student survived. Ever since we've both been extremely cautious a...

Re: RH FUEL TEMP - 64C at start
I would recheck the wiring harness connector from the right wing under the copilot's seat, since that was disconnected to remove the wing for shipping the airplane. Also look at where the harness runs through the fuselage conduit for a pinch or short to ground. The other connectors wouldn't have bee...

Re: Lithium Battery pack in the airplane
I got a fire resistant bag that the battery resides in while in the airplane (copilot's seat pocket). The bag with the battery in it fits easily through the vent window. I also got a pair of these that I keep on the rear seat floor, just in case: https://www.amazon.com/Fireproof-Cut-Resistant-Resist...

Re: No Part Available!
By no means an expert, but looking at the IPC, the DA62 Flap Motor Assembly looks identical to that in the DA40. The P/Ns are also almost the same: DA62: D67-2753-10-00 DA40: D4-2753-10-00 It might be possible to substitute the DA40 part temporarily, until the DA62 part becomes available. I have see...

Me too. I don't get above 165 degrees in the winter, and only rarely above 180, even in the S. TX summer.

Re: updating Nav database before expiration
The KLN 94 can be updated in one of three ways: New database card from BK, Write new data on the old card using a PC, or directly transfer data from the PC to the GPS. Since I fly VFR only, and update only about once a year, I've always used the first method. I don't have WAAS, one reason I bought t...

Re: updating Nav database before expiration
Anecdotally (since I am likely the only DA40 owner on the forum who has a B/K KLN94 GPS), I can load the new update at any time before the old database expires (from the KLN94 Pilot's Guide): "The new update may be installed any time prior to the effective date and the KLN 94 will use the previ...

Re: Surprise Propeller Motion
It actually happened while I was cranking. Released the key and the prop kept turning. Turned off the Master and it stopped. Turned key to off and turned Master on and the prop started turning. The start contactor had welded closed. Had to replace it (which isn't an easy job due to its location).
