Re: What comes after a DA40?
My cardiac issue was treated a couple of months ago and I have had no problems since so I am safe to fly again (I just got my BFR in a SR20). Awesome. Curious what planes you had in the list as alternatives to the Bonanza? Tim I was looking at SR20 and SR22. I also considered a Malibu but I think t...

Re: Please advise on a da62 purchase.
Dave, You clearly know your plane extremely well and know how it will react. You must have done this at altitude before trying it down low. Even in my DA42 i never tried this. My mindset has been trained that in a OEI approach I am landing, no matter what. In part, this is due to my partner in our C...

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Cary, If you're looking at this genre of Bonanza (especially turbo-ed), you need to have demonstrated to you a stall with full flaps, gear down, and full power. I am somewhat hesitant to suggest this, but I have done this in a M35. You need to appreciate this part of the envelope. I probably don't ...

Re: Please advise on a da62 purchase.
A bit of a thread drift... my instructor on the Extra400 transition training (he really was my first mentor) just died in a horrifying twin engine accident. It was a brand new Beach Baron. He was conducting a flight review with the owner and they were doing a one-engine-inop go around. The plane fl...

Re: Sun reflector / heat shield
A friend of mine in Thailand buys domestic heat proofing materials and simply cuts it to fit. Cheap, light weight and apparently effective. We did this for our DA42. Bought the double sided reflective insulation from Lowes for about $15. Cut it to fit the windows. Used Velcro on the insulation to k...

Re: Flying Magazine Review of DA40 NG
I just saw a Republic Airlines DA40NG at our airport today, sitting next to a DA40 XLS. They must be starting the training for new pilots to fly for Republic. As Dave pointed out, the wing tips have the large winglets, but on this plane they were painted bright orange. it just looks bizarre on the w...

Re: What comes after a DA40?
I guess it is now my turn to ask: What comes after a DA42? My cardiac issue was treated a couple of months ago and I have had no problems since so I am safe to fly again (I just got my BFR in a SR20). Since I can't stand renting (plane is not available when I want it, inside always looks beat up or ...

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Cary, There is always the new FAA basic med program. Accordingly to the AOPA website, if you are healthy enough to drive a car, then you will probably qualify for basic med. (Limited to six passenger aircraft, 6000 LBS gross, no flying in class A airspace and for USA airspace only). Don, Thanks for...

Re: Oshkosh 2018 - Can I remove my gear doors?
Rob, Sorry I missed your post before OSH. I posted about my event in the DA42 several years ago. After taxiing off the runway and being marshalled to parking on the grass, I hit a bump/hole in the grass that caused the plane to jerk a bit to the left. My wing tip hit the wing tip of a C172 (or was i...
