Re: Cylinder head cracks

That report makes for some interesting reading. The NTSB looked into this much more than I have seen for other similar incidents (no injuries, etc.).

The report will certainly add some fuel to the Austro vs. Lycoming conversation.

Re: 2023 Price List DA40NG

I just looked at this and almost passed out.

My 2012 DA-40 would be more than $637K with this price list.

Re: new XLT

Adding in some random stuff here. The Lycoming is certainly inexpensive to drive around even with the extra cost of gas. I just did a spreadsheet of my annuals and they average $2,468 for the last five years. Put another way, I have virtually no expenses relating to the engine itself, though other t...

Re: 100UL and Us

I note that the comments section on this piece in Ars Technica today focus upon general aviation rather strongly. https://arstechnica.com/science/2021/12/how-the-leaded-fuel-was-sold-for-100-years-despite-knowing-health-risks/?comments=1 For those who may not be aware, Ars is perhaps the most popula...

Re: G1000 Legacy & NXi upgrade program

Diamond's service department is great at getting us replacement parts and keeping the original equipment working. Their services end when it comes to digital upgrades. Cirrus and many other manufacturers have evolved into a more modern approach. I came from an SR22 to a DA42. To set the record stra...

Re: G1000 Legacy & NXi upgrade program

That’s interesting. Reading this forum, we’ve almost been led to believe Cirrus is bending over backward to provide upgrades. To a degree, yes. I believe Cirrus will supply software upgrades to the pre-existing hardware. For example, if you have a G1000 equipped Cirrus, I think you can upgrade to t...

Re: G1000 Legacy & NXi upgrade program

Chris - I think you're right. The basic issue is one of the difference in mindset between traditional equipment manufacturers and more contemporary software / hardware providers. The former sell products with some services, the latter sell services that come with products. Having worked for GE, Qual...

Re: DA40 WAAS Upgrade Demand

Perhaps an additional element is this: was expecting to upgrade to NXi (or, if you are glass-half-empty, why upgrade to another level of unsupported product)?

I did upgrade a 2004 to WAAS when the GIA63Ws came out.

Today I would not due to the above.

Re: Flight Bags Saga

Is there a link for that bag? My evolution is similar, and I keep doing things like replacing the headset batteries with ship-powered headsets. Dumping all the paper was huge. I suppose if I had WiFi near the plane I could leave an iPad mini there and just sync up the flightplan stuff that I set on...

Re: High Exhaust Temp

I would also look at a cracked exhaust. When that happened to me (a long time ago in a galaxy far far away), the symptoms were the same.
