Re: Suggestions for New Brake Pads & Tires

We always used the standard Cleveland linings and installed Goodyear Flight Custom (III?) tires with Michelin tubes. Our alignment was never good, so the tires wore on the outer edges, but we never had a flat. I think there are cheaper options for linings, tubes and tires. We did operate off grass m...

Re: Nose Wheel Strut Issue

Yes, my bad. The pivot bushings are probably worn (20-3220-01-05) which would cause both problems. Good time to check the condition of the welded stud on the end of the NLG strut, as these have been known to crack and fail, allowing the nose wheel assembly to depart the airplane.

Re: Nose Wheel Strut Issue

I'm not an expert on the C1, but I believe the nose strut assembly is virtually identical in form and function to my A1. I suspect the rubber dampers in the "shock absorber" are worn out, changing the height and therefore geometry of the nose strut. The easy check is the prop clearance fro...

Re: Boost Pump

Any specific reason you didn't just buy the Weldon pump from Aircraft Spruce or another supplier? I always try to source non-Diamond only parts elsewhere - too much markup simply for a Diamond sticker on the part.

Re: MEI / ATP Training

Europe-American Aviation in Naples, FL. I have read about these folks, but cannot speak to their curriculum. Naples, FL weather would sure beat DC in the winter. California would be similar, but I expect living/housing expenses would be higher. If you like to golf, I know a good golf pro that lives ...

Re: DA20i

This should be a great airplane for the non-North American market. They love Rotax overseas, 3.5 gph on mogas and a 650+ pound useful load. I would love to see this airplane sold here, but I doubt Mr. Dries will spend the money to obtain TC and FAA approval. Additionally, this airplane would probabl...

Re: Flying Magazine Article on Diamonds Hybrid-Electric Tiltrotor

Thanks much! As I indicated, I loved the DA-40, but was concerned about Diamond's commitment to supporting the avgas airframes. Plus an RV-10 will have a 1100-1200 pound useful load, reasonable parts prices and can be modified as desired. The 40 certainly has better safety features and I hope Amsafe...

Re: DA20-C1 Landing Gear

Thanks for the tips. Dillon's had sold theirs, the eBay gear is the long legs off a later C1.

Re: Flying Magazine Article on Diamonds Hybrid-Electric Tiltrotor

Too bad Diamond doesn't have the money to fund development of a DA40 replacement, or substantive improvements to their best selling airplane. Cupholders and sun visors are not real upgrades, in my view. I was sad to sell my DA40 share and am only holding on to my DA20 for nostalgia more than anythin...
