Re: Ceramic coating to composite planes
Good question, I haven’t heard of this product until now. I’d suggest snooping around the internet to see what others say, and ask the manufacturer. One consideration is will it affect future repairs: we shouldn’t use products containing silicone for example because it doesn’t let new fibreglass or ...

Don, I’m curious so forgive me if this is too personal: why did you buy 4 DA40’s?

Re: DA-20 MT prop STC experience
Sorry for delayed reply to price question. I believe the prop itself was around $3500 USD + install that my mechanic did at annual. Install wasn’t a lot - less than $500. This prop and ForeFlight are my two fav upgrades.

Re: DA-20 MT prop STC experience
I switched to the MT around 6 years ago. I love it. It’s such a superior prop in all ways. It’s stronger, withstanding rain, sleet, pebbles etc better, and it is amazingly faster. My cruise went from 119 knots to 132 knots at the same reasonable fuel usage setting. Cost was around $3,000.

Re: R44 piece and discussion on safety culture
I agree with you guys 100%. It’s so disappointing that GA fatalities are as high as they are and except for Diamond, really not improving. Think about it: if you fly 10,000 hrs in your GA life you have a 16% chance of dying if you own an R44/R22, a 10% chance of death if you own a Cirrus, and a stil...

Re: Advanced leaning - Mike Busch
Does anyone know if LOP operation can apply to a da20 as well? DA20 manual only specifies rop operation. Sounds like it would be better to run lop and save fuel.

Re: Buying a DA-20
I’ve owned a 2001 DA20 for about 7 years and love it. My main mission is a 1hr commute to the cottage but I also use it for business and leisure travel for anything up to a 3hr flight away. I fly about 75hrs/yr. I’ve looked at upgrading to a bigger faster machine but it’s just not worth it. I’m in t...

Re: What comes after a DA40?
Thanks Antoine, great review to share of both planes! Life has its quirks: The Extra looks superior in almost all ways but it’s currently orphaned. I also don’t like that switching from my diamond to a nice 6 seater for the whole family results in the level of statistical risk to human life going up...
