Re: Engine overhaul time - Lycoming IO-360-M1A
I have a 2002 da40 with 1900hrs on airframe and engine. So far the engine runs perfect. What is everyone’s experience with running these engines over 2000hrs on condition? Is it possible to run for 3000hrs for example, or not advisable? I don’t want to risk my life but nor do I want to waste money.

Re: Reducing MP after takeoff?
After about 1000’ as long as it’s not hot out or CHT gets too high, is it bad to cruise climb at 2400rpm and lean for better fuel economy? Rather than 15gal/hr you can climb at 12 or so.

Re: Avionics upgrade
335 + stratus is a good idea, thanks Rich! I already have the stratus so just need 335 now. I’ll investigate. A system that only works with the US ground based system will work ok for me as most of my flying is near enough to the border. It covers me for all flying in the US and if there is no cover...

Re: Avionics upgrade
Does anyone have a suggestion on an inexpensive ADSB installation? Something that works with ForeFlight would be ideal. I have a 2003 with gns530 and 430 and kap140, non waas unfortunately. Would be nice to get waas too but looks like that ship sailed.

Re: Aileron control circuit friction?
I had a da20 for 10yrs and they were always light with a steady movement. Friction or stickiness doesn’t seem right.

Re: KAP 140 replacement.
Why replace it? Is something wrong with it or is it no longer repairable? It’s a good autopilot.

Colin, let us know if you make the jump to a 62 and how it goes! I’d be interested to hear about pros/cons, cost of ownership of each, etc. Exciting!

Re: Would you buy another DA XX?
I just went through the exercise of choosing and buying an upgrade from my DA20. I looked carefully at Columbia, Cirrus, Meridian and Diamond. I saw the same issues with lack of upgrade paths for various model years from all manufacturers. As for lack of service centres, it’s partly because the DA40...
