Re: Air intake vent tape
B9B77DDD-8619-4B6B-A5D9-3C37BFEDEE11.png On my plane, I tried taping the bottom then top vent as a comparison. Taping the bottom vent gave me the best ventilation and noise reduction. As noted in previous posts, the sailplane tape would wrinkle, and with time eventually come off the vent. My soluti...

Neat trick, thanks for sharing! Rich, let us know if you second Steve’s opinion that you get less noise and more airflow.

It also feels easier on the engine (and prop) than 2700rpm if you’re hoping to run well past 2000hrs

Re: A very big deal -- FAA Approves G100UL for ALL GA piston spark-ignition aircraft
This doesn't affect me, but how do they enforce the need for the STC? Honor system? Russ, I don't directly know the answer wrt enforcement. I recently purchased the Swift Fuels UL94 STC and yesterday had it "installed" by my A&P. All "install" means is my A&P filed some ...

Re: DA50 Experimental at CYOW
Ottawa flying club is a great place to overnight. Very friendly and no charge if you buy fuel. They’ve plugged my plane in on cold overnights for a low charge.

Suddenly hard to start
I upgraded from a DA20 to a 2003 DA40 Star in sept ‘21 and have put about 60hrs on it so far. Plane and engine all worked beautifully until this week. The Lycoming engine started up immediately every time and all of a sudden it now take several seconds to crank until it starts. When it does catch it...

Re: Stall and Pitot Covers Keep Blowing Off
I had the same ones as you and I trimmed the heavy ribbon 2/3 back so it’s less windage to pull on the attachment points. For the stall plug I now use a bright orange rubber (not foam!) $1 ear plug no string or ribbon. Shows up bright and has almost no windage. Has not dislodged in 2yrs. I tried a f...

Charles, that’s a great price! Let us know how it goes and what the shop name is if you don’t mind. After reading the other comments I wonder if you should look at the savvy $750/yr program and see if it’s worth extending the life of the original engine.
