Re: Advise on New DA40 XLT Configuration

GDL 69A SXM - I don't see the need with ADS-B in/Out above. But I see most people order their new plane with it. I understand why people are switching to ADS-B, but we maintain the SXM subscription. IME it updates faster and has better resolution. SEAMECH AC - 70lb penalty and from what I can read ...

Re: NG vs XLT in light of Austro MSB

My mission destinations will be within 3 hours of flight from the Greater Los Angeles Area, so San Diego, San Francisco, Vegas, Napa, Tahoe, etc. Though based in the Bay Area, this is similar to how we use our XLS. A few times a year we fly farther, but the main mission is ~2 hr radius, which cover...

Re: G1000 EIS intermittent failure

In addition to cleaning pins, check carefully with a bright light and magnification for debris in the G1000 connectors. I had an intermittent failure that caused a G1000 meltdown (TT reset to zero :thumbsd: ) during a firmware upgrade. This was eventually traced to tiny debris in one of the G1000 co...

Re: Air intake vent tape

I was going to use some expanding polyurethane insulating foam to fill the upper vent cavity, but... I did some experiments, and the foam didn't really fill very well, and I didn't want to deal with the mess. The instructions on the spray can also noted that the cured foam may be flammable. I figur...

Re: More Tidbits From the Maintenance Course

4. For the emergency battery behind the panel, I thought I heard him say that there was a service bulletin to allow changing from the lithium pack to the one with replaceable AA batteries. Not sure why you would want to, maybe cheaper and easier if you can do it yourself. See above. Does anybody kn...

Re: G1000 legacy data cards

You might find it cost-effective to buy microSD cards and use an adapter, usually included with the microSD card. MicroSD cards are more widely available in smaller capacities, and this will reduce wear & tear on the SD card itself. Prices for small capacity SanDisk SD cards are quite high, whil...

Tim, that's behind the Beechtalk login wall... do you have a summary? Thanks, Wayne FYI, BeechTalk does require no-cost registration, but there is no paywall. AFAICT they mostly use registration to cut down on spam and bad behavior. Here is the key post by George Braly. Tim Roehl is GAMI's presiden...

IME, a short piece of the appropriate-sized heat shrink tubing works great. Sort of like a Chinese finger puzzle.

Re: DIY (owner-assist) Remote Oxygen Tank with Pics

Even if it is installed with rubber and dual lock, is it considered as “removable” and thus OK regarding airworthiness? I’m not sure that my inspector will allow this in France. My IA was not concerned about this at all. In fact, he liked the idea that it encourages more frequent O2 use. Not an &qu...
