Re: Superior turbo-normalized XP-360 or XP-400.
Thanks Kai for the info. Just landed after experiencing my first G1000 failure in flight. Lost everything on the avionics bus %&ç%?!"*ç I am short on time now. Will read the trip report from Thailand and let you know. "Your" mountains are also VERY nice. Sure must have been a grea...

Re: More performance?
I normally adjust throttle and mixture to manage RPM and CHTs; the prop pitch is self adjusting. Normally during the summer with Temps in the upper 20s to mid 30s at ground level I see about 135 TAS at 7.5K feet. In the winter like now with temps about 5-10 degrees at ground level I am usually gett...

Re: Aggregate performance data from Diamond Reports
Absolutely. From the input I've read here, I think we also need each plane to be characterized as follows:
- What prop
- PowerFlow or not
- What landing gear
- What prop
- PowerFlow or not
- What landing gear

Re: Superior turbo-normalized XP-360 or XP-400.
... apologies for going off-track again! So back to the thread topic: I believe the XP360 turbo is a great engine, but not for us. If we're willing to take such a weight hit, why not go Austro-Engine? We get a certificated plane that will keep its market value better and save a lot on fuel costs so ...

Re: Superior turbo-normalized XP-360 or XP-400.
Kai this is one niece piece of engineering! Wow. Was it a north atlantic ferry? My plane did it without ferry tanks, and without me, but fuel was very tight. I know the DA40 can take off with significant overload. I have a friend who is about as crazy as you are! ;-) That crazy friend re-did the spi...

Re: Superior turbo-normalized XP-360 or XP-400.
Superior Airparts offer a turbo-normalized XP360 and a XP400, 220 HP rated. According to a spec sheet I have seen these engines maintain 75% up to FL250. http://tinyurl.com/2a98gf7 What possible speeds would this translate to in a DA40? @ MSL, a DA40 runs ~130 kts @75%, now what will keep it away f...

Re: Thielert situation
If Centurion could bring the "real/unsubsidized" cost of ownership of their 2.0/155HP diesel engine down to Lycoming levels, (implies fixing the reliability problems) this would be an absolute winner for the DA40 an DA42. Imagine this: Sea-level take-off performance within 15% of the Lycom...

Re: More performance?
Hello Tim This is very interesting data. How fast is your SR20 btw? wondering if Cirrus are as optimistic as Diamond when it comes to claimed speed? (It seems many of us are seeing around 145 KTAS top speed for the DA40 except for that one hot rod which is routinely doing 150 KTAS WITHOUT wheel pant...

Re: More performance?
Erik: 150+ without wheel pants? Unbelievable! How do you measure it with steam gauge instruments? Do you use a GPS or do you compute TAS? You realise this is the DA40 not the DA42 forum? :D Seriously: I'd be curious to know what the change was when you put the GAMI's and fine wire plugs in?...
