Thanks Colin! Actually I could also time it so the Badger ferry is just about half way across
And Mark, the only problem with that is my waterski buddy will want a tow across and that’ll increase my fuel burn

Re: Engine failure best glide speed descent rate
Thanks all for the input. I did a similar calculation but was wondering if anyone had the actual performance. My reason for asking was my planned flight across Lake Michigan enroute Oshkosh. At the narrow point it’s 46 nmi so at 14k ft and a 68kt glide speed that means 18-19 min descent time. So a 1...

Engine failure best glide speed descent rate
Has anyone determined the descent rate in fpm when descending engine out (let’s say idle throttle) at best glide speed (e.g. 73 kts)?

DA-40 Barrel roll
Has anyone tried or seen a video of a barrel roll in a DA-40? I know it’s not certified for aerobatics but given it’s a 1G maneuver I thought someone may have done it.

Re: DA-40 checkride help
If the examiner fails the PFD or turns down the brightness all the way (assuming you have a G1000 bird), be sure you know to hit the red reversionary button to get the PFD on the right side. Know the electrical system backups (essential bus and emergency switch) and what functionality remains. Alway...

Re: Outdated Garmin G1000 software - petition sign-up
I’ve been continuing to follow this thread in hope that those of us with non-WAAS G1000 models would see a near-term low-cost solution to get WAAS capability. Has Garmin ever been asked why they won’t remanufacture GIA63W computers? If we have a 345R Xponder, that could conceivably be the WAAS GPS s...

Re: Pseudo RNAV approach with vertical guidance
Yes, it's the latter. If I don't select the approach I don't get the MAP. If I select the approach you cannot put a VNAV target on the MAP so that's why I was trying to fake one, usually by putting in the required FPA of 3 degrees (usually) on a user created waypoint just shy of the runway. Just try...

Pseudo RNAV approach with vertical guidance
I have an ‘05 DA-40 with the KAP 140 A/P. Because the G1000 does not provide vertical guidance for an RNAV approach I found I can create the same lateral path by entering the approach waypoints and putting a VNAV alt target (or the flight path descent angle listed on the approach plate) on the last ...

Re: New nosewheel fairing has towbar opening smaller than original
Well just to close this out, Diamond did not offer to fabricate a new fairing but said a field mod was required to enlarge the towbar opening on the new part they shipped. I had that done and the fairing is now installed. I am disappointed that Diamond does not maintain a stock of correct spare part...

Overhead light panel adhesive
My rear passenger overhead light switch panel has come loose. It looks like it was secured with some kinda gray gasket sealer, different from what looks like clear silicone used around the front panels. Does anyone know what kind of adhesive should be used here?
