Re: Maximizing Lycoming IO360 Climb Performance

Lycoming does publish their data. Look for Lycoming-IO-360-m1a-operating-manual.pdf for data for ours. Yep. You are correct! :bow The embarrassing part is that I had that PDF on my computer and annotated the performance sections in 2015. Fortunately the performance change from 2400 to 2700 R...

Maximizing Lycoming IO360 Climb Performance

Hopefully this thread will remain focused on how to maximize the performance of our normally aspirated DA40s. Not why… the NG is clearly superior in most respects forced induction is the way to go Diamond should replace the 180 HP IO360 with a 200 HP IO360 or 215 HP IO390 (angle valve engines) I dis...

Re: Sighing the airplane ownership sigh

Sending parts in has always resulted in longer than I expected until final completion of the project, usually by a factor of at least 3. IME not always . But often enough. :( We've started accumulating spares for parts that need periodic replacement or overhaul, including: Magnetos Alternator Fuel ...

Re: Aeroleds Landing/Taxi Lights

My night vision problem was mostly reading text on the G1000. My eye doctor recommended changing the bifocal prescription from "reading" to "computer" (arm's length). This was a massive improvement. Now I don't have to worry about getting nose prints on the G1000 screen. :mrgreen...

Re: Aeroleds Landing/Taxi Lights

Is your conclusion that the HID are brighter/better than the LEDs. I’m just happy to get rid of the horrible halogens. Hi Peter - My conclusion is that the AeroLEDs are superior to the OEM HIDs in peripheral vision. The Sunbeam "hot spot" is also narrower and brighter. But overall they we...

Re: Aeroleds Landing/Taxi Lights

Congratulations Peter! I made the mistake of applying for a 337 for this exact modification in 2014. The local FSDO turned us down: https://i.imgur.com/MfifMJll.png Full size image: https://i.imgur.com/MfifMJl.png The kicker, of course, is that TSO'd landing lights don't exist. :scream: But once we ...

Re: Finally the Launch??

It is fascinating to compare the responses on DAN with BeechTalk. The BeechTalk crowd is not normally effusive about Diamonds, but is mostly quite complimentary about the DA50: This is a very exciting new plane. Speed, range, payload, and packaging appear to be right on target. Plus the Diamond prod...

Re: Sighing the airplane ownership sigh

Does anyone have any advice in general on how to deal with these kinds of situations? I am happy to call this an odd combination of weird problems, but also I wonder if I shouldn't think that it's my fault and that I could have managed this better somehow. Hi Ilya - Sorry to hear about your travail...

Re: NG vs XLS

Obviously circumstances may be different for others, but in our case it is not clear that fuel costs would be lower with an NG. Running LOP saves a lot of gas (though IMO that is not the primary benefit). Our 2008 XLS averages about 7.3 gph: https://i.imgur.com/FE69oA9h.png Full size: https://i.imgu...

Re: Dead battery

I "heard of a guy who" left the master on and ran the battery down - at Oshkosh, no less. Didn't even notice the screens while "he" put the canopy cover on. Amazing. I know the same guy! Never turn the position light switch off. Impossible to miss in a hangar, and even if...
