Re: Plug replacement

If ... Resistance checks OK (typically ~1k, <5k Ohms max) No significant "rounding" of the tips or enlarged gap Threads are in good shape No ceramic cracks ... I clean them and keep them running. Here are the bottom plugs that I pulled on Saturday before cleaning. Number 2 and 3 have about...

Re: Skybeacon on DA42 NG?

I'm curious as to what was involved in getting the FAA to sign off on that modification. I was originally thinking of doing something similar for my DA40, but ultimately went with the GDL82 instead, mainly because of the rear position light issue. Depending on the IA, there is a large gray area reg...

Re: AOPA article on sticking valves

In a similar thread on BeechTalk ( link ), Ed Kollin follows-up with additional comments. Chris Some additional detail, I've had numerous reports of big bore Continentals (Bonanza's, Mooney's, Cirrus's, Cessnas's and Lancair's) with intermittent roughness and exhaust valve sticking. They seem to be ...

Re: Bird Strike - DA40

Any suggestions on finding out if I could get the updated canopy glass? Who would I need to call? You could start with Diamond support, which IME is quite helpful. But when I need parts I generally call Brittany Glassman at Premier in FL: (954) 334-2393. Excellent service! She should be able to con...

Re: Camlock replacement

FWIW, we've been slowly replacing all our Camlocs with stainless equivalents from Skybolt (www.skybolt.com/).

They obviously don't tarnish, and also seem more durable. We started with the wheel pants and the fasteners still look like new.

Re: Bird Strike - DA40

Hi Jeremy - Great to hear that everybody is OK (except for the laundry)! I'm amazed (/encouraged?) that the canopy is largely intact, even with the instant sunroof. When you get a chance, how thick is the plexiglass in the center of the canopy? Might be an optical illusion, but it...

Re: Maximizing Lycoming IO360 Climb Performance

Regarding runup, from the same Pelican's Perch article ( emphasis added): If you did lean, either push the mixture fully in for runup, or enrich it just enough to get runup RPM. A mag check with a leaned mixture is much more diagnostic than the normal runup at full rich, so if I do a mag check at al...

Re: Maximizing Lycoming IO360 Climb Performance

Hand-in-hand with this is leaning for takeoff at higher DA. Meaning above around 5000 ft. The normal procedure for doing this with a fixed-pitch prop doesn't work for a CS, so I'll initially use the lean setting I found gave me the desired drop during mag check and monitor EGTs, targeting 1300 deg ...
