Re: Question for engine ground run during lockdown

I too have been taught that the ground run up does more harm than good. I bought my 2002 DA40 knowing that it had not flown more than 15 hours a year for the preceding five years and that I most likely would end up overhauling or replacing the engine once I started to see the effects of this lack of...

Re: Annuals CheckList & AMM - How to validate required checks?

On the PowerFlow required maintenance, I found that when I was shopping for my Diamond this item was typically overlooked on aircraft annuals. Hopefully, this was merely an oversight on the Annual’s entry. Yet it is something I do discuss with our Chief of Maintenance before the annual, and I ask it...

Re: That innocuous foam cover

I had a similar experience lately Rich. I just ordered 4 extras to stash in the plane and flight bag.

I like your idea of the zip tie over the supplied tiny rubberband

Re: Maintaining proficiency in these times

Good thread. For some reason I have not felt comfortable flying with Pennsylvania at the level of lockdown that the Governor is asking for. To some degree I wonder if some on the ground would regard me flying overhead as being as insensitive as a Spring Breaker on the beaches of Florida. I realize m...

Re: Steam gauge DA40 with Garmin GTX345?

Lance, As you have the 345 installed I highly recommend having the Flightstream 210 installed at the same time. Having the ability to type in and upload flight-plans and clearance changes from the iPad to the panel (and avoiding scrolling through the 530W screens) has been a major safety upgrade. Tom

Re: Steam gage DA40 with Garmin GTX345?

Rich makes a number of very good points about why his configuration may make more sense than my aircraft’s avionics layout.

Attached is a photo of my panel with the 345 installed. I hope this helps

Re: Steam gage DA40 with Garmin GTX345?

4E6C4D79-502D-41CD-8CAC-4E0B4BCC1813.jpeg Lance, this is an older picture pre-345 with the 330 transponder. As I get to the aircraft in the next day or two, I will provide a current photo. One issue with this configuration, is that when I fly with my 6’3” brother his knee has occasionally changed m...

Re: Steam gage DA40 with Garmin GTX345?

Lance, My avionics shop was able to swap out a Garmin 330 for the 345. My six pack AC has its stack with the KAP140 on top, the 530W followed by the 430W, and the 345 on the bottom. The final bill equaled the estimate so I never heard from the shop that there was any problem getting the 345 to fit f...
