ADS-B equipped aircraft will communicate with each other tho, correct?

Here in crowded New England not too many will be able to escape compliance.

Re: Curmudgeon speaks out on our wussy airplanes

These "holier than thou" diatribes drive me nuts. There are only two relevant questions for me: For the pilot - What is the goal? For the aircraft - What is the mission? For a relatively new pilot working on an instrument ticket who wants to take his family out on a sunny weekend without undue risk,...

Why not? Wheels too small for the weight?

Re: Landing katama in a 40

Very interested in opinions on this one. I live in the Boston area and Katama was one of the first excursions after I got my ticket (in a 172 w/o wheel pants). Katama is a wonderful experience and a well maintained airfield but I am worried about my wheel pants and taking the one off the nose gear i...

Re: Any value flying with the Apple Watch?

I was trying to think of some features where a watch would be uniquely helpful, such as a pulse-Ox warning mentioned by Lance. Things that are not obvious by looking at the PFD in front of you. I would like to have a warning that would bump your wrist if you stray from a desired altitude or heading ...

Any value flying with the Apple Watch?

Now that Apple has released their third generation watch, I was thinking it may be worth a more serious look. Unfortunately, I haven't found much in the way of recent reviews, and older info seems to dismiss it as a novelty. Does anybody actively use the Apple Watch as an aid to flying? With G1000 a...

Paint damage from Avgas?

The long skinny dihedral tanks on our DA40 regularly confound line crews. Overfilling is all too common, even though I ask them to leave an inch. I wanted to know if anybody else has this problem and what you might do about it. Also, I am worried about paint damage. I haven't found any literature ab...

Re: Help updating data on my G1000

Do this on the MFD right? PFD and MFD. The data is used on both sides (PFD inset) and for redundancy. The system will check and give an error if the versions don't match. The newest G1000 S/W version may copy the info to the other side for you (someone help me here) but I hear it is very slow. Load...

Re: Help updating data on my G1000

NAV data loads from each of the top two. The bottom ones are for the other databases. Leave them be for the NAV update. Load the NAV data on a blank SD card, insert into one of the upper slots, turn on the batt and follow the prompts to accept and update the database. Power it down and repeat the pr...
