Re: ADS-B not transmitting
I took a tour of Boston Center in Nashua, NH about 2 years ago and asked the controller how ADS-B was affecting their work. He said that they could maintain radar contact on the ADS-B equipped aircraft at lower altitudes than non-equipped aircraft. I asked the same question to our local tower contro...

Re: KAP 140 autopilot pitch trim servo clutch slipping?
Thank you very much for the feedback. I went out to the practice area for about an hour today to get a better understanding of the problem and it doesn't seem as straightforward. With the autopilot on, the trim wheel would not move when I changed power settings except for 2 or 3 times during the fli...

KAP 140 autopilot pitch trim servo clutch slipping?
Hello all - Happy Friday (2004 G1000 DA40 WAAS KAP 140 A/P with altitude pre-select) Was working on my instrument proficiency today with an instructor and encountered a problem with the autopilot trim. On a coupled approach, the autopilot would not descend quickly enough with a reasonable power sett...

Re: Avoiding Night Blindness While Flying
PIREP on this headlamp absolutely love it. It has built in prevention for preserving your night vision. It has only one button. Push it and you get a dim red light good for most nighttime cockpit needs. Push it again and it turns off. You have to double press the button to get high intensity red, an...

Re: AP Disconnect Button Fell Off
I tried to press the A/P disconnect button yesterday during an instructional flight and it wouldn't disconnect the autopilot. Not a big deal at that moment since there are several other ways to shut down the autopilot. I fiddled with it for a few minutes and got it working again. After reading this ...

Re: The G1000 project - "The next step"
After talking to Garmin, it would appear that the "upgrade" path for the non-WAAS G1000 owners does not exist at this time. While GIA63W owners can buy new screens for a mere $28k (whenever Garmin provides the software), us GIA63 owners are pretty much hosed. The Gamrin rep said that ther...

Re: G1000 KAP 140 NAV to APR transition question
The Honeywell B/K manual tells you to press APR to intercept the localizer. This usually works but my KAP 140 seems lazy to me. Sometimes it will overshoot or wander and I use CWS to nudge it back on course. Other times my APR indication will start flashing on the display, no idea why. If I push APR...

DX.X Waypoint added to approach
The G1000 adds an extra waypoint on some approaches 2 miles before the IF. (D10.9 in the example photo) Does anyone know the reason for this? My only guess is that it's a 2 mile warning before grabbing the localizer. It seems to show for some approaches but not others. S/W version 321.23 WAAS KAP 14...
